How can the rope model be true, if it says three feet, and the spell says five feet?

Because it is not following you until the point where you start to move more than 5 feet away from it?

Ah. And there you've pinpointed the prerequisite nerf... Do not allow it to go higher in (edit: air) the than a few feet. Which is something else I've never done.


Still, the way the current version of the spell is written (cause that's what I can read), I don't see anything stopping it from working that way, other than sheer willpower. Which, as I said above, I'm a signer, sheer willpower can have a LOT of effects.
 

I've got a player with a device that lets him cast TFD at will. I can't remember how he came to have it, but it's not that big an issue since I'm very lax on encumbrance. And it seems to give him some glee to mime casting it all over the place :uhoh:

I would say he can have as many TFDs active at one time as can fit within range of the spell (some 25' radius) at a ratio of 1 disk to 1 5' square. If it came up.

I favor the rope theory of TFD, by the by. This isn't an autonomous off-road vehicle we're talking about, here.
