Devlin reaches the door of the tower first. He tries to open it, but it's locked. He knocks loudly three times. A gruff curse can be heard from somewhere inside, then a yelp, then a scampering of feet. The heavy oaken door creaks open and the boy apprentice's head pops out. "Yes, sirs?"

Devlin Magruder, human rogue 3

Devlin tries to force his way through the doorway. "Something major has occured, son. We must speak with your master straight away. Hurry up and fetch him, boy, your very lives may hang in the balance!"

ooc: Bluff +7, Intimidate +6 if needed

The boy looks taken aback. After a moment of silent shock, he spins about and dashes away, leaving the door ajar.

(If somebody wants to sneak in, at this point, say so. Otherwise...)

After about a minute, the boy races back down stairs. Gruff mutterings and mumblings can be heard as the old man descends. It takes him about 2 minutes to reach the door. His blue pointed hat is askew and his beard looks as though it was dipped in something wet. His blue cloak is wrinkled and it looks as though he might have slept in it. "What the bloody hell do you want now?"

OOC: Yes, please ;)

IC: As the boy dashes off, Luthiel sees his chance. He pushes into the room, looking around for someplace to hide. If he spots someplace to hide, he'll take the opportunity to try to get the drop on the mage and his apprentice. If it looks like a risky proposition, however, he'll merely return outside with the rest of the group.

[sblock=OOC]Hide check is only +3[/sblock]

Luthiel sneaks in through the door right after the boy dashes up the stairs. The inside of the tower is rather small. The space is used very efficiently, though. There is a wooden chair and a cabinet/bookshelf on this floor. Under the stairs is a small storage space. It is here that Luthiel manages to hide himself (17+3=20).

The old man in blue comes down the stairs grumbling. Before he reaches the door, he leans over to grumble a curt command in his boy companion's ear. The boy nods and cautiously approaches the tiny closet under the stairs. He takes a hasty look inside and returns to the old man. Luthiel can hear frightened, boyish whispers, but that's all.

The old man goes to the door and says to Devlin, "What the bloody hell do you want now?"

After a very short pause, giving Devlin no time to respond whatsoever, the blue clad man adds, "And why is there an elf under my stairs?"

Devlin Magruder, human rogue 3

Devlin brandishes his loaded crossbow about wildly as he steps inside and tries to position the old man between himself and the doorway. "You'd hide too if you saw what we saw. You didn't tell us there was a pack of werewolves out there! That's right, werewolves! Glowing red eyes, slavering jaws, walking on two legs, the whole show. And your clearing here is not protection from them. They chased us right into the open!" Devlin continues in the same vein, trying to distract the mage and his apprentice long enough for the rest of the party (or as many as will fit) to enter the tower and surround them.

ooc: Bluff +7 again. ;)

Luthiel Faradar Elven Rogue1

Seeing what Devlin is intending (or at least thinking that he does), Luthiel steps out into the open as well. He does not say anything, but he has on his face an expression of abject terror, trying to give weight to Devlin's words. He tries an experimental shiver or two, but he keeps ready to use his secret weapon as soon as the time is right.

The man in the blue robe accepts Devlin's bluff without a flinch. But it doesn't have the effect that perhaps Devlin was looking for. "So what? For the sakes of the gods, I hired you to clear out this damned land! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO- NO! NO! YOU ARE NOT COMING IN HERE! OUT OUT OUT GET OUT!!!" The old man has a bit of a coniption as he pushes against Devlin, trying to bar his entrance to the tower. He oversteps himself, though, and stumbles to the side of the rogue. Devlin, feigning fear, hops through the portal and inside the tower. Malen grunts and shoves past his disheveled employer as well. Cryndo and Garrit, playing along, scuttle inside too, and Jasper sneaks in right behind them.

The man is shouting "DAMMIT BOY, STOP THEM!! GET OUT OF MY TOWER!!!" while picking himself up. The inside of the tower is very cramped now. There are 7 people inside and an eighth, the man, standing in the doorway. Suddenly realizing his predicament, he spins about and turns his attention to the dark forest. "Werewolves? In the clearing? I-I-Impossible. It's safe here, totally safe... I thought... I mean, I made it safe! It's safe, dammit! Right, boy? The clearing is safe, surely safe, safe safe safe! Let me in, dammit, move aside boy, let me in!" He makes a mad scramble, cramming himself into the already crowded first floor.

Now the only one who is remotely comfortable is Jasper, who has used his size to sneak through all the people up the stairs. On the second floor, he sees... (Well, he's being NPCed, so...) Down below, Devlin, Luthiel, Garrit, Malen, Cryndo, the boy, and the man are caught in a scene of utter chaos. There is scrambling, shoving, and screaming, coming mostly from the old man (though Garrit is doing a fair amount of shoving).

A sort of cramped, tense order takes hold of the group. The old man, now thoroughly annoyed and extremely cranky, resumes his normal tone of voice. "Let me rephrase my question: Why is there an elf, two humans, a dwarf, and a half-orc in my living room? What's all this about werewovles in my clearing, my safe clearing, my untainted, clean, pure clearing? What in the gods' names is going on here?!"
