Hiya!
I'm just going to point out that:

1) You are the third person to try to explain THAC0 as if it were easy in a third entirely different way and it still doesn't sound as simple as roll plus bonus, compare to DC.
Except it is. See..
"Roll plus bonus, compare to THAC0"
See?

2) This is a fandom that rallied around avoiding adding 2 to a number.
I'm not sure what that alludes to...but I'll assume it's funny.
;)

The joke makes me shrug, but I do find it a little disingenuous when people treat THAC0 as some sort of brain-bending mathbomination. It's literally the same mechanic y'all are still using now, only instead of 1d20 + AC ≥ THAC0, you roll attacks with 1d20 + Attack ≥ AC. Wow-wee, what a super-intuitive and revolutionary innovation.
The math works out the same in the end, but the suggested procedure is more complex:
1. Roll d20.
2. Add bonuses.
3. Subtract the result from THAC0 to find the lowest AC you hit.

I mean, it's not rocket surgery or anything, but it is annoying that you operate in multiple directions. Some of that can be helped by baking permanent bonuses (stats, magic weapon, specialization) into an adjusted THAC0, but that's still annoying. And brings up "So I get +2 to hit, and that lowers my THAC0? What the heck is up with that?"

I tend to not like humor in my fantasy/sci-fi (but I do love comedy in my horror). So "yes" to Ghostbusters, but "no" to Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams. This might be a reason I don't like fey as a theme in general - too goofy.
Dude, have your read any of Piers Anthony's Xanth novels? You would absolutely love them!

Edit: I forgot the 1st rule of sarcasm on forums; always use a smiley. Given what was revealed below, however, I cannot put a smiley here.

I'm not offended. I think it's funny.

Though, I can see how someone might take it to mean that one group's feelings of offense are measured to be of smaller importance than others.

Personally, I appreciate the sense of humor.

At the same time, it could be perceived as mixed messages by an audience who has been told that they way forward for the brand is to remove anything that might paint entire groups of people in a negative light.

🤷‍♂️ Again, it doesn't bother me; but I can see how someone looking for offense could possibly find it, given the current climate of social media and general PR statements from a company.

And optimizers treat each other like Einstein if they manage to wring so much as a +1 out of the system.
Whole essay's have been written on the importance, or meaninglessness, of a single +1 in 5e. ;)
Hang on a moment, not to be the Devil's Advocate, but it really depends on where that +1 is being applied to, doesn't it? If it's to a single damage roll, that's definitely negligible. If it's to an attack roll? That means you're 5% more likely to do damage with that attack! If it's to your AC? That means that you're going to ignore 5% more of the attacks that will be focused on you. If it's on the amount of characters in the party, that's a full other PC that can do an Action, Bonus Action, Movement, and Reaction all in one round! +1's can obviously range from nigh useless to game-breakingly amazing!

(Well, not entirely sarcastic, because the points are accurate. The argument should be taken as sarcastic, though.)
