Thank god for ENWorld

I've just been reading through the 4E 'Doomsday' thread at the Wizards boards. For all the 4E griping that has gone on here at ENWorld, even the worst of it is far more reasonable and level-headed than the tripe that get posted over there.

Thank you ENWorld members. Even those who don't like 4E.

It's continued reports like yours that encourage me to maintain my 'EnWorld only' D&D surfing policy. That and a lack of time :)

Mind you, it's not that EnWorld is completely free of problems either, but my hat goes off to the moderators for a job well done.

I've only just recently begun spending time on ENWorld with the 4E announcement, and I must agree. A very nice place to have civil discussion here.

Indeed. ENWorld is, far and away, my favorite gaming community online. I've had some really bad experiences on the WotC boards, and I've mostly avoided them since the 4E announcement. I'll go back once things have had time to cool down, but never as often as I come here. :)

White Wolf put out a new edition every, what, 2-3 years?
WoD/Exalted: About 5-6 years, I think. (V:tM 2e - 1992, V:tM revised - 1998, V:tR - 2004; Exalted - 2001, Exalted 2e - 2006). In WW's early days, a game's 2nd edition might have come out faster than this; these days, not so much.

d20: Well, D&D 3.5 certainly prompted an update for a lot of things. (I don't think anything had 2 editions within 3.0 or within 3.5...)

Well, as alluded to above, a game's 2nd edition definitely could come out faster in the not-so-recent past. In fact, when I check now that's true for at least the 'big' game lines released up to and including 1995. According to Wikipedia:

(1e/2e of V:tM - 1991/1992; W:tA - 1992/1994; M:tA - 1993/1995; W:tO - 1994/1996; C:tD - 1995/1997)

Revised (i.e., 3rd) editions - for the three games that got them - came ca. 5-6 years later. New World of Darkness versions, another 5-6 years.

OTOH, Vampire: The Dark Ages was released in 1996 - just a year later than Changeling (which got a 2e within 2 years); its successor, Dark Ages: Vampire, came out in 2002.

Maybe they just got bogged down doing sourcebooks for everything after they had 5 lines? ;) (Tongue firmly in cheek, here.)

To be fair, if ENWorld had started a "rant about 4E" thread, it would probably be a lot worse than what you've seen. That sort of thing doesn't just act like a lightning rod, it intensifies the ire. It also doesn't really decrease the venting in other threads, not much anyway.
