Thank god for ENWorld

Not to mention the fact that at GenCon, most of the publishers I spoke with were getting our information regarding 4e from ENWorld, since there wasn't a lot of communication to publishers coming from WOTC.

Thanks for that, ENWorld. You gathered all of the relevent information in one place, and helped a lot of publishers during a fairly chaotic time.

Kudos to all who are helping make this time an interesting, fun one for those who are eager for the new edition and those who aren't planning on switching over. I honestly didn't know how the announcement would change things around here, and that was probably kind of scary for some (it was for me!). I have great hopes that we can all enjoy our time here discussing RPGs and D&D in general as well as the nitty gritty aspects of our preferred version.

All I can say is that I hope you guys are right. I've seen the other boards and it's ridiculous.

Considering this thread and the attention the sticky threads that the moderators have posted relating to "bad form" posting, I'm looking forward to this board being my new home for D&D news. :D

Personally, I dont care on tad for the change that have been announced so far, but im trying to keep a somewhat open mind and at very least take solace in that this is the home board of grognards and there will always be someone to talk to about it.
Totally not looking forward to the future but i suppose life goes on.

Thanks, gang. This can get frustrating for us, too, but we always try to be even-handed and consistent. Your kind words really help!* I particularly appreciate people who are keeping an open mind and who haven't jumped to conclusions. I really respect that -- and it's not easy to do.

* I spent part of today wanting to whack a few folks upside the head with my copy of Ptolus, so believe me when I say the kindness is well timed. :D

I do appreciate a civil discussion, where we can disagree but still respect each other. Perhaps one thing we can try to do here is to show that we can have different views, but not view each other as the enemy.

Also, I see a lot of good efforts to gather information, and some good speculation. So, let's keep the dialogue going.

This thread should be closed. It clearly violates the "no religion" policy.

Don't make me report you, Curtis.

4e interests me from a marketing perspective far more than mechanically at this point. I'm VERY happily running other games, but have also recently dusted off the 3.5D&D books after a year of no D&D in my household.

I just don't get the angst and hate that people have for new editions of games. I find lack of support for a game line to be a good thing in most cases, because I don't have any new books coming out that I have to retrofit into a game. That's why I'm running CyberPunk 2020 a lot lately.

Cheers to the mods, and to the membership, for keeping ENWorld sane.

I've just been reading through the 4E 'Doomsday' thread at the Wizards boards. For all the 4E griping that has gone on here at ENWorld, even the worst of it is far more reasonable and level-headed than the tripe that get posted over there.

Thank you ENWorld members. Even those who don't like 4E.

QFT - thanks to the members AND the moderators AND the GenCon reporters who kept this site informed while Wizards was experiencing "technical difficulties" during the announcement.

This whole experience is flashing me back to 8 years ago when 3e was announced and rumors were being aggregated here (or at least at the site that would become "here"). The attitude of the site still seems very similar, maybe a little less enthusiastic than 8 years ago, but there's still mostly an "enthused about finding out new bits of info" vibe to the site that is still here. I like that - whether I decide to pick up 4e or not I'm still kind of interested about hearing all the stuff that's going into it, and it's nice to have a place to talk with others who share that interest.

I have been enjoying the seeming irony.

Most of this is thanks to the mods and community here. so everyone should do some back patting.

But I think some of this is that a lot of those kiddies did drink the kool-aid. And now they are learning that today's best ever will have to become yesterdays product.
