Here's my stupid question for the day: I see the module has been written for OSRIC - I haven't dug too deeply into OSRIC so I'll just ask: how close is that system to 1e? (I assume reasonably close but I'm wondering how much if any conversion I'd have to do, and I don't want to read the module without buying it first)

OSRIC is almost identical to 1st ed AD&D PHB/DMG rules.

It doesn't have weapon vs armour or speed factors. It has clearer rules for resolving surprise and initiative timing. It doesn't have monks or bards.

There may be other minor differences that I've missed. But it's close enough that I actually learned a few things about AD&D (eg gnomish fighter/illusionists can only wear leather) that I'd never noticed in the PHB but that are called out more clearly in the OSRIC rulebook.

Zero conversations. I ran as is and it worked just fine.

I was a killer DM or as I like to say the other DMs were to nice. I have no idea if they were or not, but I killed way more PCs then the other two table put together.

Hmmmm: that's interesting, since Jon racks up kills quite regularly in the home game and did the same at NTX too. Chris, do you remember talking about using critical hits tables or not---Jon uses them at home/etc., but perhaps they were not used in the tourney?

We did not use any critical hit or critical fumble rules. We talked about it but choose not to do it to keep things simple.

That probably explains it then: Jon killed two PCs within the first 10 minutes of two different events at the NTX RPG Con, using those crit hit tables ;)
