Sounds like it is a sure thing that the druid won't be in the first PHB - has this been confirmed?
As far as I know, it's just a rumor. The only confirmed classes at this point are, IIRC, fighter, wizard, cleric, rogue, warlock, and "warlord." I'm sure there will be a few more.

it'll be interesting to see if there are role-play problems with having a warlock and a paladin in the party at the same time.
Well, we know paladins can be evil in 4e (or, at least, there will be paladins of Asmodeus), so maybe they will be able to team up and be friends. :)

I bet in the backstory for most campaigns that paladins and warlocks will be traditional rivals, just like elves and dwarfs are tradtionally at odds. But that won't be a strict rule IMO.

I missed this info somehow. Can someone provide a link?

There's a new Design & Development article up by Heinsoo, on the warlock. I was reading through it with some interest until I read this:

"send enemy directly to hell for a round"

4E design team, will you marry me?

Funny how different fluff strikes people differently.

I'd been completely nuetral on the Warlock hitherto. I didn't particularly like the class but it did fit a niche - especially in 3.X. I didn't see the reason for it in 4e, but I didn't object to its inclusion either.

Then I read that peice of fluff.

And I was like, "That is so completely cheesy. That has to be the stupidiest spell-like ability ever. Not only is it dumb over the top l33ter crap, but its completely illogical. Hell is easy to get into if you don't stay long? Hell is easy to leave if you don't stay long? Why the freak would hell be giving something back? You've got a spell that's roughly as powerful as planeshifting twice, and watch its going to end up being like a second level curse?"

Well, I don't have any assumptions about what 4E should be like; instead, I wait to see what the developers cook up and then I respond. The glimpse of these warlock powers struck me as fresh, imaginative, and innovative, and I responded to that with a thrill of anticipation.

This was pretty much my reaction as well.
