The 4th edition class list so far

Driddle

What's the latest consensus on which classes are most likely to be in PHB, as justified by designer/playtester comments? It's been a while since I've seen an overview thread updated on that topic alone.

I think the general consensus, although not confirmed 100% is as follows:

Cleric
Fighter
Paladin
Ranger
Rogue
Warlock
Warlord
Wizard

Barbarian, Bard, Druid, Monk, and Sorcerer will all appear in later supplements. Also mentioned as possibly appearing in later supplements are Swordmage, Illusionist, and Necromancer. Psionics will appear later although no psionic classes have been named. There are absolutely NO plans to do a Rouge class, and anybody who even mentions it will be hunted down by rabid were-wombats.

IIRC, they said they were not happy with the idea of having 1/3 of the PHB for just one class (wizard). If 1/4 is used by another class (cleric), it will be somewhat unbalanced.

This is why I hope there will be more than those 8 classes. I want druids to be in the PHB, at least.

Of those, the Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, and Wizard were explicitly confirmed. The Warlock has also been confirmed, although the wording offers a little bit of wiggle room. The evidence for the Ranger is that it's included in the playtest package, and presumably they're only testing for the PH1 at this point.

That leaves the Paladin and Warlord, which have both been mentioned in playtest reports, and everyone seems fairly confident that they'll be included, but I'm not aware of any explicit confirmation of either.

Nice overview. Thanks. That's what I was looking for.

(Aside: I hope we don't have two classes that start with "war-" in their names. But that's just me being ultra-picky.)

Can we at least confirm 4 of the above?

If I have to drop $35 for 4e Player's Handbook, I'd want to have at least the Barbarian and Monk classes included.

You can confirm Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, Wizard, & Warlord. I believe Paladin, Warlock, and Ranger are in it as well.

OK, with sources:

Confirmed

Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, Wizard (Per Logan Bonner on these forums)
Warlock (per Chris Perkins here).

Very Probable

Ranger (one of the 5 playtest characters per Greg Bilsland

Likely

Warlord (Numerous mentions, including Bruce Cordell stating "there is a warlord class" in an interview - not 100% clear it's in the PHB)
Paladin (numerous mentions in examples, playtest reports, etc., most notably Chris Thomasson's playtest report from last week's game which states "he paladin was exacting divine retribution.")

Warlord can also be seen in the screenshots of the character creator for the DI, giving more evidence it's in the PHB.

Of the confirmed classes (Big Four, Warlock, and Warlord IMO), all but the Rogue and Warlord have consumable abilities. For the Wizard, Cleric, and Warlock, we know those are spells and invocations. The Fighter reportedly has Bo9S-style abilities. It's not a stretch to think the Warlord will too.

The point being, I think the comment about the Wizard using up so much of the PHB was in regard to spell descriptions, and we now know that Fighters and Warlocks will have lists of abilities as well. Thus, Wizards are no longer using a large portion of the section.

Also depending on whether it's accurate or an error by Amazon, it just might be the reason they say it has 320 pages. If every class has various expendable Bo9S/spellcasting abilities that could pump up the page count significantly.
