The Aleasana Meta-Thread!

It was never established whether the Urukh's nation of Ur-Sai lies in the same mountainous regions of Aleasana, or separately somewhere southwest amidst the Faegrim or the Sun's Anvil Desert, or even further southwest, perhaps on another landmass or island or whatnot, perhaps not. It was simply described as far southwest of Aleasana. Chances are that Ur-Sai is either someplace alongside the Sun's Anvil Desert, with the Desert separating Ur-Sai from Aleasana, or some large island or chain or islands near/beyond the Desert. Maybe someone will establish the location at some point, but it hasn't been specified as yet.

Current geography: Aleasana is a mountainous region of apparently more-or-less temperate climes, with the mountains tapering off into cold hills and frozen wastes in the north. To the south lies the grasslands, and further south is a large desert. On the eastern side of Aleasana are some rocky highlands, and on the western side lies the Faegrim marshes and such. West off Aleasana's shore is a vast ocean, as yet undescribed, and to the east is the Olden Sea. Southeast of Aleasana, in the nearest parts of the Olden Sea, lies the Olden Archipelago, which arcs southeast by the grasslands and deserts, then further east and a bit north. Somewhere far, far east, probably too far to sail directly from the mainland, lies whatever land the humans of Aleasana came from.

Nice map although I think Maralan is too close to the Aleasana mainland

Also does Ur-Sai need to be above ground? the mysterious land could be under the Sun Anvil Desert (assuming that the Drveger occupy the area under Aleasana proper) or perhaps it is an island floating above the Bodai grasslands or perhaps it is a parallel dimension - anything is possible:D

I agree--the map rules. As a beginning, at least.

Also, right now, we know very little about the Ur-Sai, except that foreigners can visit it enough to become experts in it, though such individuals are very rare.

Thank you. I was sort of thinking of the problems the Mongols and the Huns often wound up facing, when one of their chieftains died. Also how property ownership is almost always the basis of nobility...

Yes when I read it I was immediately reminded of the words that Teb-Tengri spoke when Temujin was made Khan of all Mongols (and took the name Genghis Khan)
viz:
"Before you were born the stars turned in the heavens. Everyone was feuding. Rather than sleep they robbed each other of their possessions. The Earth and its crust had moved. The whole nation was in rebellion. Rather than rest they fought each other. In such a world one did not live as one wished, but rather in constant conflict. There was no respite, only battle. There was no affection, only mutual slaughter."

Genghis Khan is one of my personal heroes and whilst at school many years ago I'd often do projects on him and the Mongol empire (probably why I love the Bodai so)

Definitely a lot of Genghis in little old Sergis. (And more of Attilla, really...)

Now as to the Lake Djani - Sellaseril issue as origin of the Dai River

Arkandhus said in his post that the Sellaseril was ONE of the sources of the river so adding the Lake as another source (and even the Faegrim swamp as a source isn't a strech - all three (or more) sources merely converge to become the great Dai River.

*Not* the Faegrim, that would just be bad geography! ;) The Faegrim is on the western slopes of the Aleasana mountains, blending into the Western ocean. A river that flows *out* of the marsh, flows south towards the desert, then turns east to flow out into the Olden (eastern) sea would be a leeettle hard to swallow... :D
