The Best Team Showdown!

Szatany

First Post
General - The Best Team Showdown!
All those showdown that pop up allow you to submit individuals. Now you have the chance to post teams. What one cannot do, five will!

Here are the rules.

- You will nominate a team that that consists of 2 to 6 people.
- They must be generally perceived as equal (no master and apprentice, jedi and padavan, or hero and sidekick). Teams of 3 or more can have leader etc.
- You can nominate a team that is part of a larger group. For example, you can choose and nominate your 10 (or less) favorite avengers. Regardless of the composition, only first entry per group will count.
- They must be perceived as a team first and foremost, not as individuals that ocassionally get together.
- Post their name (if the team has one), a bio, each team member, and a picture(s). Do not post very small or very big pictures.
- If you like, post some of their best quotes. Its very fun to read.
- You may nominate any number of teams you want.
- The team can be from any media source: books, movies, radio, television, and movies.
- No real life teams. (like Flip and Flap)
- When you nomiate a team, post what number he/she/it is.
- Once we have 128 teams then the nomination period will close. If the thread goes at fast pace, this number may be increased.
- From these 128 sidekick we will start a head to head voting brackets to reduce the hero pool to 64 and then to 32, etc. until we have the final Ultimate Sidekick.
- I will be the moderator (although if Gomez or Dark Ketzer wishes, I'll add them as a moderator since this is based on his idea) and will rule on any questions or problems that crop up during the game.

Feel free to post any questions you have here.

Connor & Murphy MacManus- The Boondock Saints

boondocksaints_016.jpg

Irish brothers Connor & Murphy MacManus live and work in Boston. Feeling that God's will to rid Earth from all human Evil was given to them as a mission, they set out to do their divine deed.

Risking their lives for their beliefs of Veritas (truth) and Aequitas (justice), the Boondock Saints are hyped by the public, for they are doing good, which only few dare to admit.

"And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be, In Nomine Patris, Et Fili, Et Spiritus Sancti."

3. The X-Men (original form)

2-6 members is kind of restrictive. It automatically excludes the Fellowship of the Ring, Snow White and the 7 dwarves, the Smurfs, The 7 Samurai, The Magnificent 7, the Justice League of America, the Justice Society of America, Teen Titans (except for the original form), the Avengers (except for the original form), the X-Men (except for the original form), etc.

But anyhow:

The X-Men (original form): Professor X, Iceman, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast. Together they work to fight evil mutants and to show the world that mutants are people too.

4. The Original Avengers

Originally banding together to fight the machinations of the evil god Loki, this group kicked butt, although it did not last long in its original formation (Hulk quit). What might be called the defining member (Captain America) did not arrive until later.

Hulk, Giant Man, the Wasp, Iron Man and Thor.

5. Doom Patrol (Original version)

" * The Chief: Dr. Niles Caulder was a paraplegic gifted with a genius-level intellect. Caulder used his scientific knowledge to develop numerous inventions and innovations that made him wealthy. It was Caulder who organized the Doom Patrol to protect the innocent and fight crime.
* Elasti-Girl: Rita Farr was an actress who was exposed to unusual volcanic gases while shooting a film in Africa. When Farr recovered, she discovered that she could grow or shrink her body from roughly 1 inch to 100 feet tall. Elasti-Girl later enhanced her powers to enlarge one limb at a time.
* Negative Man: Larry Trainor was a pilot who flew an experimental plane high into the Earth's atmosphere. Trainor was buffeted by unexpected cosmic radiation, and when he landed, he discovered that his body had become radioactive. Trainor was also able to release and control a silhouette form he called Negative Man from his body. Negative Man, who could fly and pass through matter, could only remain out of Trainor's body for 1 minute at a time. Caulder developed special bandages that masked Trainor's radiation and allowed him to freely interact with others.
* Robotman: Cliff Steele was a world-famous athlete who was nearly killed in a car crash during a race. Caulder successfully transferred Steele's brain into a robotic body that was resilient to harm and which possessed super-strength.

The initial Doom Patrol, bitter from being isolated from the world, were motivated by Caulder to use their powers for the greater good."

Oh what the hell, Beast Boy joined later (a kid who could change to any animal form, but was green (later became Changeling of the Teen Titans).

Most notable for their heroic sacrifice to save the lives of a tiny tribe that were held hostage by their arch-enemies, "The Brotherhood of Evil" (including The Brain (sort of an evil Robotman, but smarter and without, y'know, arms and legs), Monsieur Mallah (an intelligent gorilla), and Madame Rouge (a shapechanging stretchy woman with the worst french accent evar).

There have been other versions of this team (I particularly liked Grant Morrison's version, although it is now no longer part of the DC universe). The only character to be in every version is Robotman.

6. Teen Titans (original line up)

A blast from the 60's past! These hip teens could understand the scene, and were totally into fighting crime while helping bridge the generation gap between adults and the new generation of teens, with their lingo and love of rock and roll.

Line-up: Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Aqualad (did he have another name?), Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), Speedy (Roy Connor, the original Green Arrow sidekick).

Basically, a collection of the "kid sidekicks" of other heroes (although Wonder Girl was originally simply the younger version of Wonder Woman, but hey, comic continuity is the oppression of The Man, so don't let it get you down!) :)

They lived in Titans Tower, which was shaped like a giant "T".

7. A-Team
a-team.jpg

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.

I pity the fool who doesn't think that Hannibal, Face, Murdock and B.A. Baracus are one of the best teams ever formed.
