D&D 4E The Best Thing from 4E

What are your favorite 4E elements?

Just popping in to say two quick things:
I can get how Jameson's game differs from 4e in terms of resolution.
(1) Despite all the negativity, I want to reiterate -since I've said it a lot in this thread- that I did have a lot of fun playing 4e. No qualifiers, just wanted to say that again.
Maybe I'm not convinced that it would work in a commercial game
(2) My RPG would not be a commercial success in its current form. For sure. That was never my argument, but I do want to say I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of it in that particular area.

Oh, yeah, I completely understand, and in whatever ways we differ in our views, its all just relatively minor differences of opinion about details of GMing. My experience is that while GMs may differ quite a bit, good ones are good, and good games are good, and I firmly believe that any and all of us can sit down at a table together and have fun. That's my own personal experience, that I just have fun, if I'm playing or GMing some game that theories are far from my mind and I'm not looking for what is right or wrong in a given game. Its certainly NOT the primary thing. We can get into these theoretical debates here, but it should all be taken with a lot of salt. If you showed up at Gencon and got a chance to sit in a game run by EGG you damned well did it, and nobody with any wits made a comment about how crazy his GMing theory was or wasn't, or how he could please them better if he did it differently (certainly not if they wanted to not be told to take a hike). It was always just a fun game (from what I hear, I never got the pleasure myself).

I completely agree. Even if other posters here don't :)

Yeah, it never much sounded like my style, but I read about the EN World mods getting to play in one of his games, and it sounded like a blast. I would probably have a great time playing in your game :)

Though I do wonder how much of my joy (and many other posters here, I'd imagine) would come simply from playing for once, instead of GMing...

Truth in that. :D Having gotten to mostly play for the past couple of years instead of GM, I'm finding I'm having a blast.

You guys are lucky! I truly do love GMing. More than playing, for sure. But it's very nice to play, and it's been years for me. I'm the only real GM in my group (outside of my brother). A couple others have tried it for 1-2 sessions and didn't like it. One other ran several campaigns (3-10 sessions each), but didn't like the prep work as much, and he loves to focus and RP one character (so, playing).

I'm truly blessed to love running a game as much as I do, as it is a great creative outlet (outside of my writing). But damn, ha, I do miss playing sometimes.

Hehe, yeah, I've always really gotten off on DMing. I mean, right now, I'm playing in a 5e game and not really DMing at all, which is OK. I'm having fun, and its a change of pace, but eventually I'll just have to get back to running a game, lol. Still, I'm sure yours would be fun, interesting at the very least. Eh, maybe someday....
