How does this book look? Are the modified rules and classes good? Does it make a truely low magic gritty setting playable? How well edited is the book?

I have not picked this up in a while, but have it on my shelf and gave it a good delve when it first came out. The book itself looks super. Green Ronin does good, clear layout, the art is neat and it's overall "pretty".

Modified classes work well, they take out the more supernatural abilities and make the classes mroe down to earth and look good. As for the magic system, a little record-keeping is involved, but if I were to ever wanna play WFRP in d20, I'd use the Black Company book to do it, let's put it that way! The book was a joy to read, I don't recall more than the usual typos, nothing earth-shattering. It was a good read, very glad to have it on my shelf.

Cool, its so cheap from rpgshop that I'm going to have to buy it, re-reading the Books of the North before I read the Books of the South so I'll pumped for all thing Black Company.

Warning: LOTS of spelling errors and a few incomplete sentences. very few rules gaffes, but the spelling and grammar errors were a bit of a downer.

Ignoring spelling and grammar, this book awesomely captured the feel of a Gritty Low-magic world, while still adding all the bells and whistles one would expect from a high-magic campaign. Combat was fun but lethal if you weren't careful (don't let ANYTHING get the drop on you!) the classes each had many fun class abilities and uses for action points (which the system uses), and the Magic use in the game is hands-down my favorite magic system of all time. I warn you, it is a complex magic system - not "calculus" complex, but it does involve a bit of prep work for a wizard to develop some spells for use ahead of time. I prefer a list of pre-done spell effects and just modifying those on the fly for range, area of effect, etc. so that I don't have much work to do in-game.

I wrote up a play example in a thread on RPG.net's d20 forum a few weeks back, but can't find it now...
