I'm still working on a Ventrilo server. I have to wait for my boss to get back in town on Wednesday.

For now, let's use mIRC. mIRC: Download mIRC

If you guys want to go ahead and download and install Ventrilo, go here: Ventrilo - Download Go ahead and load it just in case. You WILL need a headset for your PCs. Doing it with a mic and speakers rather sucks.

IRC is fine but why are you so hot for Ventrilo? With Skype anyone can get on the same call without anyone having to host a server. It also has much wider applications.

Well, if you wanna use Skype, that's OK. I just figured it'd be nice to have something private that we're in control of and can modify to our needs. Are you sure Skype will work? You indicated in a previous post that you need to get an account or was that for us? We can give it a shot. If it doesn't work, there's tons of other alternatives. Sorry if I came off anti-skype, but I have always been kinda anti for any time of "IM" client... If you guys wanna try skype, we can give it a shot. We should probably do a test run on Friday night round 8pm tho.

As far as the server and mode of communication, I will defer to group wisdom. I know very little about it. Just let me know.

I have used all three programs we are talking about and I think skype is best for our group if we want to do voice chat. Personally I prefer typing because it helps me get into character.

What method for stats are we using? I need to know this before I can build a character.

Is anybody playing something really evil that will cause problems if I play a pally or a good cleric?

One free 18. Roll 4d6, keep 3. Reroll ones, unless you like having a character who is seriously deficient in some way. I honestly don't care how we communicate. I just think I will have to wait until the second session before I can get hooked up with the equipment, if we decide to go conference calls...

I will say that IRC does lend itself well to creating stories from the session logs for putting up synopsis'.

So, let's vote. Skype or mIRC?

How well does Skype work with dialup? Is our DM still on dialup?

I have DSL now. Incidentally, one of the fellows who might be playing may have a problem with typing. Thus, Skype might be the best option for the next session. Let's go with mIRC this week and see how he does, then we can possibly convert on the next session. Cool?
