The Captain's Caper! (Dunamin judging)

Brudd shuffles his hooves uncomfortably,

"I can't pronounce the other one, least not without soaking whoever I'm talkin' to in spittle - most Minotaurs can't. Besides, Hadeys is zippier."

OOC: Just personal preference reallly, loved the flavor, but Lauto just does not have the umph of Hadeys for me. Note that Brudd generally uses the Dauntonian names for other gods, Vulkar and Peresefa.

In the night, one of the sailors high on the mast finally calls out that land has been sighted. The sails are adjusted to move with more care among the reefs of Bacarte' until the ship is finally moored at a dock. As the sailors busy themselves with their duties, Captain Azrael speaks with the harbormaster before returning to fetch the mostly monstrous crew. "I got directions to the 'Golden Palm' so we can head there and talk with Redblade. Just let me do the talkin' this time and I'll see what I can work out with him."

Leaving the Bloody Wake for now, your legs start to readjust to walking on solid ground again as the sights, sounds, and smells of Bacarte' wash over you. Walking along the torch-lit streets, the group passes by the Drowned Man Inn on their way to their destination. Eventually, they come to the Golden Palm itself. The large whitewashed building looks very upscale, with columns around the outside and a fresh coat of gold paint around the doors and windows making the building stand out from those nearby. Palm trees stand between the columns and decorate the insides of the large open air room inside the main doors. The tables and chairs are of differing sizes to suit the various sized occupants that frequant the isle of Bacarte'. The patrons are all well off money wise it seems, and the various waiters are all very tough looking orcs, bugbears, and even a minotaur or two.

In the far corner, under a roofed over portion of the building is a knot of revelers and security toughs which is pointed out by a waiter when Azrael asks about Duncan Redblade. Conversation drops to a hush and the crowd parts as Captain Azrael and his crew make their way to the large table surounded by women of all races and tough looking security guards with their hands resting on the pommels of their swords. A well dressed tiefling sits at the center of the throng, drinking and laughing with the women on either side of him. Quieting their giggles with a wave of his hand, the tiefling raises his glass in Azrael's direction. "Greetings, Azrael. I suppose I should call you Captain though, since my people tell me that you showed up here in the ship which you lost to me. Quite the big brass ones you must have there to steal my ship, and walk in here to talk with me face to face. You impress me with your audacity Captain, and so I will deign to speak with you for a few minutes and see what is so important that you would risk your life in this manner."

OOC: Looooong post. More coming soon...

OOC: We're home baby!

Brudd concentrates on looking as threatening as possible, flexing his bulgeing muscles and caressing the hilt of his huge bastard sword. He nods to a few familiar faces, having been a regular here in his days as Kraith's number two.

He does glance around for his former mentor and Bacarte's premier loanshark, but sees no sign of the Hobgoblin and returns to the task at hand - namely looming, and nobody looms like a Minotaur.

"Hah! Well done, my Lady, I see you have thinking been to bring us to this place."

He stares wild-eyed around him before waving at a nearby waiter. "An ale, if you will so kind be, I have a thirst upon me."

Quagmire nods to a few faces he recognizes on the way in. "Skaya, lookin' good. How's it goin', Tarsack. Heya, Golko, still waitin' on that tusk cap? It'll rot off if ye don't deal with it, mate." A couple of times he smirks, but doesn't say anything as someone flushes and won't make eye contact when he walks by.

Looking around at the Tiefling and his entourage, Quagmire mutters, "I'm tellin' ye, we're workin' fer the wrong party in this deal."

"I wondered if Hrav might take a look at the dos and don'ts of enforcement fer me - ye know which breaks heal and which don't that kinda thing. "

"Sure, Brudd! I'd be happy to share my vast wealth of knowledge on the subject." The bugbear adds with a grin, "It's the least I can do, since I acquired some of it from you."

Looking around at the Tiefling and his entourage, Quagmire mutters, "I'm tellin' ye, we're workin' fer the wrong party in this deal."

"Could be, but seeing as how I don't recall signing nothin', I'd say our options are still open," Hrav tells Quagmire.

Azrael holds his head high as he answers the tiefling. "You may've won me ship, but the cargo inside it belongs to its buyer. I've come wit a proposition fer ye. Gimme back the cargo, and I can deliver it and make enough money ta pay ye double the money from the bet that night. Otherwise, ye best kill me now because I ain't leavin' again wit'out me ship. Make this deal and I'll put plenty 'a gold in yer palm, Redblade." the orc finishes with gusto.

The tiefling looks at the Captain and his crew with an appraising eye. His girlthings giggle and touch each other while he conducts business. Finally, he seems to make a decision as he slaps his palms down on the table. "Captain, I'll tell you what I'll do. The money is great as a promise, but I'd be stupid to let you sail off into the dark with ship and cargo with just your word that you'll come back to pay me. It would give too many people bad ideas about how they could try and do business with me. It would be horrible for my reputation. So I want something of value before I release your cargo and let you go do this deal you think is so lucrative. That way I make something out of this even if you break our agreement. Something more than the satisfaction of your eventual death after I place a huge bounty on your head at least. There is a dwarf by the name of Thorendin who owes me a shipment of gems. He lives on Mykonos' Sanctuary. Go there and get the gems he owes me. Return here with them and I'll hand over your cargo to you, Captain."

Azrael considers for no more than a moment before nodding and spitting out, "Done."

Redblade turns back to his other guests and girls, waving one hand in dismissal towards the group. "One of my people will give you details on where to find the dwarf."

Azrael nods once more and turns to leave. As promised, one of Redblades' girls approaches the captain and tucks a small note in his belt before sauntering away in such a manner that makes the all male crew sorry to see her go but happy to watch her leave. Checking the note, Azrael finds that it does indeed contain the information he'll need to track down this dwarf Thorendin. "Time's a wastin' boyos. While I'd love ta give ya some shore leave here in Bacarte', that's what started all these problems ta begin wit' so there'll be nona that tonight. Back to tha ship and settin' sail we are." He leads the way back to the docks and boards the ship with a yell to the crew to quit slackin' and make ready for sailing. The sailors don't look very happy since they had just about finished getting everything stowed from when they came into port. Soon enough, the ship is back at sea and tacking towards Mykonos' Sanctuary.

"Aye, the job does seem to be running away with us a bit, doesn't it?" Hrav agrees. "I'm sure we'll find a way or two to make sure it's profitable for us, though."
