The Captain's Caper! (Dunamin judging)

Girth has followed along with the others with no further comment. But when he gets back to the ship he rushes to his usual spot near the bow and squats down. Drawing a small knife from his pouch he starts to scratch something on the decking - all the time muttering.

"...the approaching aspect from there...to here...Yes! ...and the ascending node...No No, not like that...thaaaat way...better..."

This carries on for perhaps an hour during which time he doesn't respond to anyone or anything. Eventually he rolls over onto his back and, just for a couple of minutes, lies there laughing with his arms and legs outstretched and his face to the sky.

When at last he leaps to his feet he walks over to Brudd, still laughing, tears of merriment rolling down his face. "Friend Brudd, this God of yours, this Hadys, a sense of humour he has as well as, how should I put it?...essential dignity! He should meet my Lady. They would get on together well."

With that he wanders back to his chosen spot, lies down, and seemingly goes straight to sleep. Near to where he sleeps is the diagram he was scratching. It seems to consist of several concentric circles with lines joining various points on the circumference. Several unidentifiable sigils are scratched at the points where the lines meet the circles.

Brudd chuckles at Girth's antics, and sets to helping the crew again trying to be friend them with his earthy humor and genial attitude. At some point he slips up to both Quagmire and Hrav,

"So if Redblade did not get any of his money back he'd be the legitimate owner of the Bloody Wake right? If he were the legitimate owner then he'd be able te sell the ship fer, say, twice what the good Captain owes him. Now if we were unscrupulous types we might fleece the Captain send him fer a little permanent swim and nick 'is loot. If we did that we could legitimately buy the Bloody Wake, and nobody'd be the wiser. Lucky we're the fine upstandin' citizens we are aye?"

OOC: Sorry to exclude folks, but Alex is a bit goody goody and Girth is a sleep and perhaps lacking in the sanity department.

"Not a bad idea, although I'm not sure I trust Redblade not to just have us eliminated and still take the ship. Maybe for now it's best if we keep Azrael around as the focus of Redblade's attention. Much easier to avoid unwanted attention if we're not wearing big captain's hats, I'd say," Hrav offers. "Of course, if and when Azrael manages to walk away from Redblade with the ship, we can always... persuade him that we can run things better."

[sblock=OOC]You guys are SO making me start to think of sequels for this adventure just to keep this crew together...and maybe in possession of this ship even... [/sblock]

Brudd grins,

"Just so long as we are all open to opportunity should it come knockin'."

He says before going back to ingatatiating himself with the crew and polishing his sailing skills.

The crew responds well to Brudd's offer of help. They show him (and any others interested) many things about the ship and sailing it which they didn't know before. Everything goes smoothly and the ship sails quick and fast to the south of Daunton for several hours. Enough for everyone to get some sleep in along with Girth. (In case anybody has used any Daily powers, they are reset now and everyone is fully healed with all Surges reset.)

You wake up to find the sun rising over the island of Mykonos' Sanctuary. Seabirds wheel through the sky calling to one another and the docks ahead are bustling with activity. Mooring the ship once again, Captain and landing party set off through the town to the outskirts. There they find a stone house in the midst of construction. Several dwarves are working together crafting the stone and setting it all up in very precise ways which look pleasing to the eye despite them not being completed yet.

Asking around, you soon locate Thorendin. The dwarf is typical of his kind: a long braided beard, but balding on top. His clothes are dusty and small chips of stone are lodged in his beard. After a quick explanation as to your mission from Redblade, the dwarf nods and responds. "I knew he'd send somebody eventually. Here's the deal though..."

OOC:To be continued... Brain not working right now. Stupid outside dog barking nonstop woke me up well before the 5:55 am alarm was set to go off. Couldn't sllep, so I got on here. Falling asleep at keyboard though, so I'll be back later at work to finish this post. Mornings like this I wish I drank coffee.

[sblock=Digger]Let Girth continue to add to his carvings there on the ship and expand it out as time goes on. If I do come up with a sequel for this adventure, those marks may play a part. Keep them mysterious though. Don't define them in detail beyond what you have already.[/sblock]

Earlier...

Quagmire nods at Brudd's words. "Seems t'me this Redblade doesn't really want the ship, he just wants his money. And he doesn't seem like the type who'd be too particular about who gave it to him, either. It would be a good thing to have him on our side, if it can be done."

Girth walks slowly up to Thorendin. He eyes him suspiciously as he talks, and then walks slowly around him. At last he stops and, stretching out a hand, gathers a small handful of the dust from the dwarf's clothing, which he then empties into his pouch.

"Thankee kindly, Sirrr" he says in a broad drawl.

"You, my friend, seem to be an astute judge of character," Hrav tells the hobgoblin. "Really, who would be too picky about who's giving them money?"

Hrav, like Brudd, soaks up as much from the sailors as he can. While he worked with his father and learned his craft firsthand, being on a ship and having a chance to see what his mother does is too good to pass up.

Upon arriving at Mykonos and seeing Girth's antics, Hrav tells Thorendin, "You'll have to excuse our half-elven friend." With a wink, he adds, "Truth be told, we just brought him along to make us boys from Bacarte seem downright normal."

After Girth's intteruption, Thorendin nods to Hrav before continuing with Azrael. "Ya see Captain, I need a favor right now and you have come along just in time to keep me from having to pay for the services I need. Or at least to greatly reduce the cost. For unless I miss my guess, you need to get those gems to Redblade and he won't take 'Sorry' for an answer if you don't. So you do me a little favor while I'm tied up here with my construction project, and I'll make sure those gems are yours. I'll even throw in a bonus for you and your strange crew here. Say one hundred gold for the Captain and fifty gold each for your muscle? Not to bad considering I could just make you do it for free, eh?"

Captain Azrael scowls at the dwarf and gnashes his tusks until the short man is done. Turning to the landing party with an intense look in his eys, he says quietly, "Well lads, this short fragger's got me over a barrel it seems. Ya feel llike earning some extra coin for the next time we get some shore leave? I know I could pro'ly just order ya since you're on retainer an' all, but we been sidetracked enough and I'm gettin' sick 'a it. So I'm askin' if ya'll are willin ta go along wit dis still. I promis' I'll make it worth yer while in the end."
