The Captain's Caper! (Dunamin judging)

ooc:will try. readying attacks might be a good tactics for the party in general when the dragon is in the darkness. Hitting it would be extremely difficult with that -5 anyway.

OOC: I'm so sorry about the delay. Things have been crazy here at home for the last couple days. I'm too late to have time to post this morning, but I promise I will post tonight after I get home from work. Again, my apologies.

-Quagmire fires blindly into the darkness and somehow hits the dragon in the eye with his sling stone. She roars her fury into the air within the darkness. (I rolled the save vs. Frightful Presence to end the -2 penalty to attacks for Quagmire, Girth and Hrav since Ata did his for Alex already. Girth and Hrav made it but Quagmire is still at -2 to hit)

-Girth unleashes a scorching burst which the dragon dodges with ease from within the cloud of darkness.

-Alex moves back beside Quagmire and makes ready to charge the dragon when it comes out of its cloud of darkness.

-Hrav moves and tries to hide while flinging a shuriken blindly at the darkness hidden dragon. The dragon seems to lose track of the Bugbear after he dives into the bushes. (Couldn't beat your Stealth check with her Perception. A bit of good news!)

-Kartharath moves out of the cloud of darkness as it dissipates behind her.

-At first sight of the dragon, Alexander charges in and slices at the black menace with his sword. With a hiss of indrawn breath, the dragon rages once more that her scales have been pierced and her flesh damaged. (HIT for 8 damage with the charging basic attack!!)

-Shrieking in anger, Kartharath reaches out to claw at Alex with both hands. He dodges one of the enormous claws, but the other rakes him bloody causing pain like he hasn't felt since the Owlbear attack so long ago...

-Quagmire, Girth, and Hrav can go

Quagmire tucks his sling away behind his shield and quickly draws his sword. "Now!" he roars. He charges the dark beast, but his thrust is little more than a distraction. He shifts to the side again and tries to provide a distraction for Hrav.

[sblock=actions]
Free?: switch sling to offhand. Q has a light shield, so he can still hold it there. If you rule that this isn't a free action, he'll use his move to do it and skip the shift below.
Standard: Charge to M19, and miss.
Move: shift to M18
AP: ready action for Hammer and Anvil when Hrav is adjacent. hits reflex 16 for 8 daamge, and if that hits Hrav gets a free basic melee attack with +3 damage. Probably misses, though. Sigh...

Save vs. -2 to hit: 18. Sigh... I would really have liked that roll one earlier...

Well, I think this is probably our best chance to nova. Hopefully you guys get better dice than I have...

"Hai! Alex! Thy destiny is upon thee as foretold I . Die well, friend of my, and I will thy doombringer destroy, or in the attempt die"

Girth whispered these words as Alex led a forlorn charge at the dragon.

For his own part the warlock maintained his cover as he called down the wrath of his Lady upon the sable draconid. As well he dug deeply into his own strength and cast an arrow of starlight at the beast.

"Keep moving! Keep moving!" he whispered as he slunk deeper into the undergrowth.

Hrav breaks cover to flank the dragon with Quag, doing everything he can to land a telling blow on the fearsome beast. He's able to shake off the acid, as well.

[sblock=Mechanics]Start of turn - Take 5 on-going acid damage.

Move action - Move to P17.

Minor action - Apply Predatory Eye to dragon.

Standard action - Torturous Strike with rapier, with CA and SA from flanking.

Torturous Strike (CA, SA, PE) (1d20+8+2=19, 2d10+8=11, 2d6+4=9, 1d6=2)

Hits AC 19 for 22 damage. Probably a miss, and even if I hit, it's for pretty poor damage.

If that missed, I'll use an ACTION POINT! to try to land my Sneak Attack again.

Standard action - Piercing Strike with rapier, with CA and SA from flanking.

Piercing Strike (CA) (1d20+8+2=27, 1d10+4=8)

Hits Reflex 27 for 17 damage (using the Sneak Attack damage rolled above).

End of turn - Save vs on-going acid damage - Save vs Acid (1d20=12)

Succeed.[/sblock]

Alexander sees Hrav on the other side of the dragon's massive body, and tries to fit a sword in the opening; Alex's blade cuts right where Kartharath's ear would be, if she had them.
His attack's not over, though: seeing that the dragon is readying to attack again, Alexander attacks again the dragonness in a way to distract her from his allies, and the sword enetrates the thick hide again, providing a chance of retreat for Quag or Hrav.
Alexander is clearly encouraged by the outcome of his attack. His wounds weigh less and the pain is subdued, though the acid is still hurting him, he ignores it. C'mon now, pretty lady. I'm ready to rumble!

ooc: ok, this was a good round; let's hope the dragon doesn't recharge the cloud of darkness. Either Hrav or Quag can shift two squares now! you decide, I suggest Hrav since he's only got one surge left and can be more effective at range than Quag.

[sblock=actions]take 5 acid damage. standard:comeback strike, 28 vs AC, 15 dmg and Alex spends a healing surge. Mark the dragon obviously.
Action point: covering attack 24 vs AC, 14 dmg and either Quag or Hrav can shift 2 squares; recover 4 hp because of Quag's presence.
Minor: Boundless endurance: till the end of the encounter, Alexander regenerates 4 hp at the stat of each turn when he's bloodied.
Save vs ongoing dmg: failed[/sblock]
