The CB is still crappy

I've experienced the being logged out, which is resolved quickly and let's you pick right up where you left off, but I've never seen the off center thing. IME, using IE works best w/the online CB, which isn't too surprising as Silverlight and IE are both MS products.

I'm w/Mummolus on the 20 character limit tho. Of course, when we went to print one off the printer queue claimed it was 800 freaking MB. For a 6 page character. WotC has the worst planning in the world if each character i actually that big. No wonder they limit us to 20 characters each. We should just be changing database entries that get interpreted into the builder and the character sheet shouldn't be more than a few MB.

Apparently that's a silverlight thing. The character files aren't actually that big- Silverlight for some reason chooses to print things as a gigantic huge resolution bitmap, and apparently this can't be changed?

I don't know the specifics, but it seems really dumb on the part of silverlight.

You know, I canceled my account last November (after subscribing non-stop since the get-go). I've been super critical of the D&DI since before and I quit and up until now.

However!

I subscribed for a 1-month, mostly for a 1-shot, but also to download recent Dungeon and Dragon articles and check out the progress on the tools, and I was seriously pleasantly surprised at how the new CB looks and feels.

I'm still miffed about the lack of house-rule options, but it seems to be getting better and better. And, to me, that's a momentum in a positive direction.

1) Wasn't zoomed in- that's the way it booted up. And it was the same size text as the other sections- all of which worked normally. When I finally did get the "Continue" button- after many restates of my browser and finally just starting anew with a Google search for the CB- the scene was just as off-center, in exactly the same immovable position as before. I just had the buttons actually show up in the bottom of the screen.

2) Wasn't booted off by someone else.

3) why would it kick me out of the program while I'm actively making selections? I didn't stop for more than the time it took me to read something in the screen. If they have some kind of arbitrary time limit, that's asinine! especially considering I'd only been working at that point for 20 minutes or so.

Weird. Never had this happen before then. I know the zoomed in thing is persistent beyond reload though.

This is also strange... I've left the thing up for long stretches (come to think of it possibly overnight?) and was not booted... Which is why I thought someone else might have logged in.

It's a combination of browser settings and their security system. Silverlight doesn't use the same browser session as the website, but it does require you to be logged in through the website, so occasionally it will boot you if you've been using only the program for an extended period. As I said, though, the program picks up wherever you left off, so it's really not a big deal. Mildly inconvenient, but that's it. Worst case scenario is that you flip to your browser every five to ten minutes and hit "refresh". It's not something to get up in arms about.

It depends on your browser settings, connection quality, account preferences, and myriad other things. When someone else logs in it typically gives you a message along the lines of "An Unknown Error Has Occurred" - I tested it a bit after they announced it as a bug.

Never once had a display problem across multiple versions of multiple browsers on multiple OSes (Chrome, FF (multiple versions), IE8, on Windows Vista/32 and Windows 7/64). I'm thinking you may just have an unfortunate combination of browser/OS/browser plugin/something else buggy affecting it, your display issue does not appear to be inherent to the CB itself.

It is very difficult for web designers to build something these days that works with *everything*. A start would be trying IE instead if you're using something else, since Silverlight works best with IE.

EDIT: Now, if you want to complain about something, feat-sorting is a goddamn mess!

Weird. I am actually problem-free with the online one, now. No centering problems, no login issues...

I'm stunned by this, but I'm actually starting to prefer it over my cbloaded offline one.

It's starting to grow on me a bit, too. When it catches up to the cbloaded offline one, it might actually prefer it. However, it's way behind right now.

...of course, even the offline CB had its problems...

The thing has a while to go, but it is developing in a positive direction, which is saying something. It is now a kind of functional program most of the time.

I'm not familiar with any of your problems, specifically...I'd shoot the dudes an e-mail, see if they have any recommendations. They sound a little unusual.
