The CB is still crappy

[RANT]I'm new to it, but gave it a whirl to help out my DM.

My first PC went just fine. No real issues once I figured out the interface. That was 2 weeks ago.

Today, I tried to design a PC for someone else, so I logged in and selected- as we all have before- "Build a Custom D&D Character."

What I got was a screen wildly off-center, with the text of some of the boxes off the screen. I couldn't use my arrow keys to recenter. No amount of reloading the window recentered it. Quitting and reloading my browser didn't help either.

I could see enough to select starting level and "D&D Home Campaign", but not whatever little buttons would let me advance from there.

FWIW, I was able to load MY character or try to build an Essentials PC. I just not a new normal one.

Not happy, WotC.[/RANT]

Haven't encountered this. Not once, and I'm one of those rare people who's used the entire 20-character limit (then deleted half of them and built another load of characters, repeat ad nauseum).

Honestly it sounds more like Silverlight glitched than the CB itself. It's still Wizards, since they're the ones who decided to go with Silverlight, but yeah. This sort of thing should be really rare.

My only real problem currently is in fact the 20-character limit, along with the abbreviated feat descriptions on the character sheets that in some cases make it hard to tell what the feat actually does. That was a problem on the old builder as well, though.

I encountered something similar in a few of the monster listings, in Monster Builder. It likely is a glitch in Silverlight.

It's still crap though.

Yeah, I haven't see the problem you've described even once, Dannyalcatraz. In fact, I've been *really* happy with the CB, and I'm what I'd call a heavy user - I'm constantly building PCs, exporting them, importing PCs from other people in my group who are even less of an optimizer than I am, and just tinkering with my characters. It's been nearly perfect since a week or two after launch, excluding it's inability to handle houseruling yet.

My guess is you are zoomed in.

Click your center button and spin the wheel and you'll zoom in and out.

Not sure if it works the same way on a mac- cuz macs are dumb. ;)

After 2 hours, I finally got the window to pop up with the "Continue" button.

After working on the PC for a while, I selected "Hybrid" as an option. After trying a couple of selections, I decided on which ones I wanted, hit select, and got a message: "Your session has expired, please login again." or some such.

It kicked me out.

Grrrrrrr!

Are you perhaps "sharing" this account with someone else?

That sounds like what happens when someone else logs into your account.

It happens if you spend too long on the same WoTC site at once, or if you close the window you used to launch the CB. It's your session on the WoTC site timing out, is all. It's a security feature designed to protect your account if you're accessing from say, a library computer - if you left it open by accident someone could come in and screw with your subscription information.

The simple solution is to periodically open a new tab and visit Dragon or Dungeon Magazine on the WoTC site - basically tell it you're not idle. It's not an issue with the CB itself, and the CB actually takes this into account with its recovery feature - you pick up pretty much exactly where it dropped you.
