The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

ooc: We'll go with tying Arnest's hands this round, tying the feet and gagging him the following round, and the hatchet thump thereafter. By then we should be out of combat rounds one way or another, and the rest can proceed as you've outlined. Assuming your companions don't stop you.

OOC: Whoops! Forgot about the combat rounds. Thanks!

I reckon Atreus will be up for the...um...event. Woe may be okay. But Tander? Maybe we should leave him unconscious for a little while. ;)

While tying Arnest, Palindrome begins to sing...
Tying up people is what I do,
And then I beat them with my shoe.
While I beat them all day looooooooooong,
I will sing this happy song.

To Palindrome: Atreus is definatly up for the event of torturing those two but as he will state later, when the time comes, he will not allow Palindrome to cut/break the prisoners limbs off just yet.
It is better for them to have something to loose like limbs, eyes, ears, other vital body parts, and when they refuse to answer our questions or say something that displeases us, we shall simply claim their body parts, one at a time, making arquements that every time they do so, we shall remove one of their lovers limb and etc.
When we are through with the questioning, we can always kill them then, or just kill the snake lady and then Palindrome can get what ever he wishes from her body.

Palindrome threatens Arnest, and tosses Woe's spear towards him. It clatters to the ground at Woe's feet.
“Thanks P!” nods Woe, before tending to Tander and trying to patch him up.

“Snap out of it, Tan-Man! I’m not going through this one more time!”

Unfortunately his initial efforts does little to stop the bleeding, though he keeps the potion ready for an emergency revival if the priest slips a step closer to death. Though Woe focuses on keeping Tander out of mortal peril, his attention is also drawn to his allies going to work on the prisoner.

“Oi!” he shouts, at the first sight that Palindrome or Atreus intends to do irreparable injury to the unconscious noble.

“No turning Arnest into Art-mess… yet.”

OOC: If Tander drops to 2 failed saves, Woe uses the potion - otherwise he re-tries stabilizing until successful. Once the cleric is stable, one way or another, he continues as below (after Arnest is knocked out).

Woe walks in resolutely and interferes with the creepy festivities.

“I got questions for Granny’s spawn here. I want him able to answer without speaking through a haze of pain or choosing answers based on what will save him or his snake-tramp most organs.”

“Whatever these cultists were involved in, they must have some serious funding to pull off all this secrecy. I, at least, want to know exactly where we can collect it and how to bypass any traps there might be set up.”

“Point in case – this is a mansion, fellas! Let’s get our hands on the deed and make it ours!”

“Granny might also pay more if we return her brat in reasonably good health. Sure, she’ll still cough up if we hand over a cripple or just charred remains, but I’m guessing she’ll be more grateful for something resembling what she lost.”

“Bottom line: These bozos will net us more gold and information alive and intact than mutilated or dead, so lay off the urges until we’ve milked them dry. After that, do what you want. I don’t care.”

[sblock=Plans]Woe is serious about this. He likes the idea of Chinua Mansion and he’s genuinely interested in solving the mysteries before breaking any bones.

He has no interest in torture just for the sake of torture. If it turns out there’s nothing to be gained this way, however, Palindrome and Atreus can have their way.[/sblock]

ooc: So it's basically down to whether or not Woe stabilizes Tander before Tander fails another death save, at which point Woe will use the potion. Either way, Tander lives; it's just a question of whether or not the potion gets used. Why don't you guys each make half a dozen rolls or so and we'll apply them in order to see what happens, rather than dragging this out?

After Palindrome takes care of Arnest
..................................................
Atreus quickly moves to aid Woe. When he is done with that he goes to help Palindrome tie the snake lady and take good care of their prisoners by giving both of them a quick bash to the head.

" Just making sure they are not pretending " and turns to Palindrome " Not that I doubt your ability to inflict enough pain to make them sleep"

" I have no intention of torturing them without having anything to gain. It is but a tool I will use if they should try to hide any relevant information from us " the rogue sends Palindrome a wry smile " Perhaps P. would, but not I "

" I agree. You are one sly man and I like that you support me in taking the house for ourselves, instead of just burning it " he says with respect to Woe

OOC: What kind of rolls do you need?

Palindrome sighs as Atreus prevents him from 'damaging' the prisoners. "For someone trained in the art of escape, you just don't get it. Anyone, given opportunity, time, and motivation can work his way out of restraints. If you eliminate their capacity for escape--to whit: the fingers for working things loose or pulling objects out of concealment, the elbows and shoulders to prevent wriggling, the feet and hamstrings to make walking impossible, and the eyes to eliminate their awareness--then you don't have to spend every waking moment ensuring that your prisoner will not break free and turn the tables upon you. Also, if some of their comrades happen to come down that hallway and free them, they won't have an ally in a fight. Instead, they'll have a burden to carry and protect."

“Point in case – this is a mansion, fellas!”
"No! It's not! It's a gods-****** three bedroom starter home with ONE ***** closet, a kitchen, and outdoor plumbing!"

“Granny might also pay more if we return her brat in reasonably good health. Sure, she’ll still cough up if we hand over a cripple or just charred remains, but I’m guessing she’ll be more grateful for something resembling what she lost.”
"Yes, all that money will make it worthwhile to restore an enemy to a position where he can and will get revenge upon you," says Palindrome, his voice steadily getting louder, "I'm sure you'll be able to pay someone to keep looking over your shoulder for you."

“Bottom line: These bozos will net us more gold and information alive and intact than mutilated or dead...”
"I doubt that. My personal experience is that people with a choice between quick death or slow, agonizing death or living as a useless, sightless cripple tend to give me everything I could possibly desire."

Then he turns back upon Atreus, "And you don't seem to understand that 'keeping the body parts' is not the motivation for cooperation. The motivation for cooperation is being permitted to die with some measure of dignity and freedom from suffering."

"For two individuals schooled in the art of murder and turning profit from the blood of others, you certainly are squeamish. Perhaps even a measure hypocritical, as I recall such joy in castrating opponents and snipping off their nipples."

" I agree. You are one sly man and I like that you support me in taking the house for ourselves, instead of just burning it " he says with respect to Woe
Now, Palindrome is screaming. Flecks of spit fly out of his mouth, punctuating each syllable. "Yeah! Brilliant! It's not like it's a ***** base of operations for a cult or anything. And it's not like some of their ***** allies might crawl up out of the sewer and wreak bloody-*****-vengeance on the new owners. And it's not like the ***** magistrate will ask pointed questions about the passage of ownership, especially as the name of the people owning the house is not ****** GLASSTON! This is a ****** upper-class neighborhood. You don't think it will be a tad bit suspicious for a bunch of ***** adventurers to stroll in and lower the ***** tone?"

"I'm just trying to think ahead, look at the big picture, and preserve our future, but--you know what?---**** this ****! I hope you two ****** are happy in your ***** love nest!"

Staring daggers at Woe, Palindrome grabs one of Arnest's fingers and snaps the bone. He stands, stomps once (hard) on Arnest for sheer spite, and storms up the stairs, out of the room.

Up in the hallway, there is a muffled shout, then the repeated smack of flesh against flesh. Something heavy slams against the walls. In a few seconds, with an incoherent howl, Palindrome flies out of the doorway, back into the room. His left hand grips the back of his head and slams it hard into the stone wall. The wizard collapses and tumbles down the stairs.

Though his body is unconscious, his left hand is still moving. The fist, almost like the head of a serpent, dances on the end of his arm, surveying the room. The thumb moves, puppet-like, in imitation of a mouth. Doddoddod's voice speaks,

"Do not be alarmed."

"I repeat: Do not be alarmed."

"You have just witnessed the activation of a contingent compulsion, initiated in the event that my apprentice attempted long-term abandonment of those that I have assigned to watch over him."

"Please continue to act as if nothing untoward had occurred."

The hand falls.

Palindrome is clearly unconscious.
