The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

Woe kneels and sets the snake lady down on the ground, drawing a broad-bladed dagger from his boot upon rising to his feet again.

“Should have listened to me, puppy. Now you’re going back to the Kennel of Hell!”

He braces his shield in front and stampedes into the fray, smacking the hound away from his comrades and following up with a slash across its back.

[sblock=Actions]Woe drops the snake lady, draws his dagger, moves to C5, and attacks with Tide of Iron. He hits AC 19 for 6 damage, pushing it to A6 and shifting after it into B5.[/sblock]

Round 8, continued

Atreus bleeds onto the floor. He looks paler.

Woe dumps the body and slams the gravehound, knocking it away from Tander.

Arnest hurries by Palindrome avoiding the wizard's gaze, and goes back into the room. (run + move)

OOC: Let me just say that I'm pleased as punch that someone other than me ended up rolling a natural '1' and pleased as Baptist church punch (which is even better than regular punch) that it was a monster that did so.

Palindrome picks up Woe's spear, then moves into the hallway, blocking the exit and edging near Arnest.

"Hey, Arse-pest, I don't see any magical energy bolts shooting out of your fingers into that dog. You best un-**** your priorities."

The wizard fires a magic missile into the dog.

[sblock=Actions]Jerkwad tries to get out of MY line of sight? I don't think so.

Minor-Retrieve spear.
Move-Go to J,6. (Yeah. Guess who's in position for an opportunity attack?)
Standard - Magic Missile (1d20+5=10, 2d4+4=6) AAAAARGH! Not only do I miss, I roll two 1's on the damage![/sblock]

Relieved to see his friends back again, despite the puzzling presence of the unconscious snake-lady and non-hostile Arnest, Tander immediately moves to stabilize Atreus, lest his dark sleep prove permanent.

OOC: Move to C5. Stabilize the dying fails. Well, we've still got some "time". Hopefully Tander doesn't die in the meantime. Save vs necrotic fails. So much for hopefully - Tander will be hitting the pavement next turn absent any healing. Woe have an inspiring word left? We may need that sucker.

Round 8, continued

Palindrome watches Arnest like a hawk. Unfortunately, he does not watch where he aims his spell, and it goes awry again.

Round 9

Tander, ignoring the corruption creeping through his own limbs, tries to stabilize Atreus, without success.

The gravehound turns its attention to Woe. With unnatural speed it ducks under his shield and latches onto his ankle, unbalancing him. The wound is not deep, but almost immediately it starts to fester. (hit, 5 damage, knocks Woe prone, and 5 ongoing necrotic (save ends))

(Assuming that I understood correctly that you intended to carry one each of the four healing potions, I believe it's Woe and Tander who have one left. Getting one out is a minor action, as is drinking it. Just in case it becomes relevant...)

OOC: This dog is hell on paws! 3rd level monster in the MM? I don't think so...

My boy is at J,6 -- not I, 6. I don't want dinkmeister to be able to squeeze past him.

And you've got it right about the potions. We split 'em up back at HQ.

“That’s it, you rotting bitch*!”

Woe yanks his leg free and pulls himself to his feet, infuriated and seeking bloody vengeance.

“When I’m done with you there’ll be cause for Daunton founding its very first Undead Animal Rights Movement!”

Just as the dog opens wide again to sink its teeth into more of the living, Woe surprises it with a swift and risky strike. He reaches in and knifes it deep inside its mouth, jamming the dagger between its jaws so that it can’t bite down.

With a brutal finishing technique, he places his foot on its muzzle and kicks loose, liberating his hand and dagger while cracking skull-bone one way and tearing decayed flesh another.

[sblock=Actions]Woe stands and attacks with Comeback Strike. He hits AC 21 for 9 damage and heals a surge. If the hound dies he drops his dagger and pulls out a healing potion.

Of course, Woe saves vs ongoing necrotic damage. In fact, I don’t think he’s ever failed a save in his whole career.
