The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

[sblock=Healing]
With a DC heal check of 15 or better (and a standard action), Tander can stabilize Atreus so he doesn't have to make any more death saving throws. Then after an extended rest Atreus will be good as new.

ooc: Yeah, gravehounds are nasty for their level. I seem to remember being on the wrong end of them in NT's game and having trouble then, too... ;)

Round 6, continued

Atreus does not worsen, and he shakes off the lingering corruption of the gravehound's bite. (I counted again, and I'm pretty sure Atreus has one surge left.)

Woe and Palindrome try to convince Arnest to submit. (what is the trigger for Palindrome's readied magic missile? Since you didn't specify, I'll assume it's if Arnest runs or attacks.)

Round 7

Tander yells for help, and blasts the gravehound with holy light. He shakes off the corruption as well, for the moment. (5 necrotic from ongoing damage. Hits for 15 damage. gravehound is bloodied.)

The gravehound lunges for Tander. Once again, its rotting jaws find purchase, bringing the cleric to the ground. (hit, 5 damage and 5 ongoing necrotic (save ends))

Arnest pauses in his flight, his face betraying indecision and confusion. "You won't hurt us, unless we refuse to adopt your perverted rites, you mean!" he yells, but his eyes stray to Tsasha's limp form. (delays)

Hearing Tander’s cries for help as he and Atrues is torn apart, another déjà vu flashes through Woe’s mind and tremors in his shield-hand threaten to erupt in a new shaking fit. The warrior turns decidedly more sombre and fixes Arnest with a glare.

“No rites, Ant-nest, we’re not with the bugbears. Stand down and we’ll sort this mess out.”

In what appears to be an extraordinarily rare sign of good faith, Woe drops his spear and disarms himself.

Diplomacy 16

“If any of my mates ends up dog food, however, the fate of your elven guard will seem merciful compared to what will happen to Tsasha.”

With that he slings the priestess over his shoulder and races off, speeding back to the rescue… and preventing history from circling back near an all too familiar path.

[sblock=Actions]Woe drops his spear, picks Tsasha up, and uses both his move and standard action to run back towards Atreus & Tander (to G5).

Not that Arnest needs to know it, but the fact that Woe threw down his arms has nothing to do with righteousness. It was simply a necessary evil to get a hand free, so that he can snatch the lady and pull off two run actions in the same turn.[/sblock]

Arnest wavers a moment longer. Woe dropping his spear seems to convince him, however, as he lowers his hands and starts splashing after Woe. "I'll come, but it's Tsasha's dog. It never listens to me."

Tander is immensely relieved to see the signature streak of Palindrome's magic missile, even though it doesn't manage to connect with the hound. He stands up, his strength sapped further by the last attack, and does his best to defend himself while his allies arrive. Hold on a little longer, he thinks, including both Atreus and himself in the sentiment.

OOC: Take 5 necrotic. Stand up. Go total defense.
Save vs necrotic fails.

Round 7, continued

Atreus clings tenaciously to life.

Woe drops his weapon, throws the limp reptilian body over his shoulder and runs back towards Tander's cry.

Arnest starts back towards the ritual chamber.

Palindrome hurls magic down the hall, but he's too busy keeping an eye on Arnest to aim properly.

Round 8

Tander, hearing his friends on the way, steels himself and tries to hold on.

The gravehound continues its assault, but its rotting jaws lock open at the crucial moment, and it cannot bite the cleric. After a moment it forces its jaws closed with a sickening snap, but the opportunity has passed. (natural 1. There you go, KenHood, just for you.)
