The Closed Eye, part II (DM: covaithe, Judge: garyh)

Woe leads the way into the depths, his spear held suggestively before him. He tries to keep his eye on the wet ground for prints, but the daylight is soon left behind in the twisting tunnel, and Hacker's lantern is far enough behind that he has trouble making out his own feet, let alone footprints. His attempts at stealth are impeded by the sticky mud, which squelches quite noisily around his boots. Undeterred, he leads on, with Kathalia, Atreus, and Hacker following in single file.

[sblock=ooc]At least, that's what I take your marching order to be, based on recent posts. Also, since I've gone and broken into OOC text anyway: Hacker's everburning lantern is the only light source that anyone's mentioned so far, so I assume that's all you've got out at the moment. [/sblock]

Suddenly, Atreus calls, "look out!" and hurls himself backward. Woe and Kathalia turn in time to see a small flame moving quickly along a concealed fuse. Its illumination is just enough that you have time to read the label on a small wooden barrel: "Grayson's Finest Red Label Coconut Rum".

Then the barrel explodes. Flames blast across the tunnel, along with splinters of burning wood. Woe takes a burning splinter right to the eye, and a wash of scalding rum pours over his face. Kathalia fares slightly better, though she is still badly burned, and some flaming debris lodges in her clothing.

"Aaaaahahahahaha! Brilliant, me beasties! Get them now!" cackles a harsh, screeching voice from around the corner to the east.

[sblock=ooc]The rum barrel makes a close blast 3 attack. +9 vs. Reflex crits Woe, hits Kathalia, misses Atreus. Woe takes 28 fire damage :eek:, Kathalia takes 15 fire damage. Those hit are subject to a followup attack, +7 vs. reflex. Woe and Kathalia are hit, and take 5 ongoing fire damage and are dazed (save ends both). Woe is bloodied.

[sblock=status and initiative]

Woe 24/46 HP, 11/11 surges, bloodied, 5 ongoing fire and dazed (se both)
Kathalia 21/36 HP, 9/9 surges, 5 ongoing fire and dazed (se both)
Atreus 29/29 HP, 7/7 surges
Hacker 36/36 HP, 9/9 surges
Bad guys undamaged. All out of sight around the corner.

Initiative rolls: Good guys: all higher than 10, bad guys: 10. So you all go first.

You've been travelling west to east in the cave, and the voice was to the east.

Woe roars in pain and surprise over the flaming piece of wood lodged in his eye while his face instantly has turned into a world of burning hurt!

“AAAAAAARRRGHH!!! Oh my freaking merciless fates, who just swapped the sweet savory stripped-down singing saints with sore sadistic stinging spiteful sinners to cause this damn blasted blazing pain!”

“Even worse, what a gods,-titans,-and-all-the-rest-of-those-snotty-punks-bedamned unholy waste of fine rum!!!”

Woe blinks the splinter out through shear force of record-setting winking power, but the excruciating pain remains and further builds up his rage.

“I am so going to break someone’s arms off and use them as drumsticks. I’m not just talking a quick snare roll solo on the bastard’s face, this is going to be a bloody cosmos-spanning world-wide sold-out tour of pain-concerts featuring your lungs as bass drum, your jaw as crash cymbal, your eyes as floor tom, your balls as hi-hat, and every last one of your internal organs to serve as percussion instruments the likes no one ever heard about!!!!!”

[sblock=Actions]Woe spends his Second Wind and does not save.

*Sigh*

I’d like to be shocked and filled with disbelief, thinking this is a unique case of poor rolls and ill fortune. Unfortunately, I’ve played with the Punishment Patrol long enough to know better.

This is just Friday.

ooc: ...garyh can shoot it down if he thinks we're bending the rules too far.

...assuming garyh doesn't think we're all a bunch of cheaters and dis-approve it or something.

OOC: Oh, you're a bunch of dirty, rotten scoundrels... ;) but there's no reason to punish the players (and cause a lot of work to rebuild and re-review the PC's) when it's easier to just take the GP out of the rewards to come. I'm fine with it. Just caught up after one of those weeks...

Thanks, garyh!

Are we using the 'everybody goes whenever they want to go' initiative or are we taking turns?

Hack stares in dismay, mouth agape, words failed, at the destruction of the rum.

OOC: Yep, pretty sure we can all go whenever. Kathalia is pretty fast, but it doesn't look like even she will be able to move and attack this turn unless something is really close to the corner. Maybe we should ready some attacks and spread out in case another barrel is coming?

Hacker tosses his torch before the party. Then, he draws his instrument and readies to cast Misdirected Mark on the first enemy to show itself. (Enemy will be marked by Woe.)

Dodging the explosion, Atreus watches Woe and Kathalia burn with distaste. Out of nowhere there is a sling in his hand loaded with a stone bullet. " let them come " he responds when he hears his enemy's voice while moving into a better vantage point.
[sblock=Actions]
Minor Action: Pulls out his sling from his belt
Move Action: Moves to E 14 and if he can hide, he does so hoping gain an advantage against the enemy. Hide check: got 20.
Standard: Readies to Use " Sly flourish " with his sling at the sight of the first enemy. I made the attack with sneak attack damage, but without any potential bonuses nor penalties for range or combat advantage. Hits AC 25 and does 19 damage with sneak attack and without sneak attack does 12 damage.
