I too like the ranger as written. But I'm just a big sucker for such things.

And, at the risk of being insulting, I have no problems fitting them into my campaign as written. All it takes is a bit of imagination.

However, my feeling is that if the Ranger was just named something other than Ranger there wouldn't be a problem in other people's minds either. But what to name them? I really have no clue what name would fit them perfectly.

Sneaky, very sneaky. The ranger lacks some abilites, but is playable. They should give them more skill points and access to some more skills that would allow to cflesh out different types of rangers.

I actualy think the whole "Nature's Paladin" role of the 3E ranger _is_ very cool, regardless of the other comments I've made on the ranger. I really do. Which is why I kept it and renamed it to Guardian in my campagin.

Now, as we both know Jack, I don't like the ranger being called a ranger, but that's another thread, and I'm not gonna be the one to start a flaming war here

They are great stalkers. That, IMO, is their best aspect.

3e rangers are great if they click with you...I prefer my alt.ranger of course (it fits with the image of "ranger" in my mind).

You left out "other" as a choice. I know I play 3e rangers because Drizz't D'urden is my favorite fantasy character, and I want to play clones of him every chance I get
