I was playing "Bad Dudes" the other day on my MAME (emulator) and in the opening sequence, it tells me that there is "rampant ninja crime" and it has spread to the White House, and that I needed to rescue president "Ronnie".

I LMAO at that. "rampant ninja crime" indeed.

Actually, it asks if you're "a bad enough dude to rescue President Ronnie".

Also, the ninjas have to deliver burgers.

Module nj-2: The Zombie Halfling Cannibals of the Ghost Ship of Captain McNulty

So you have defeated the secret ending of Freebooters of Lost Skull Island (tm), but are yuo ready for the next challenge? Once again the Ninja-Empress needs your help. Captain McNulty was a fierce pirate capatin. He could even kill a ninja sometimes! Two ninjas was too much though and they snuck on his ship and killed everyone before they could wake up because ninjas are like that. They kill you and get away before you know your dead. Now Captain McNulty is a scary ghost his ship is manned by a halfling cannibal crew and they are ready to eat your eleet crew of super ninjas.

Think your ready for the challenge? Think again!!!! Ha ha ha ha!

kenjib, you're frightening the baby ninjas because your ideas so FRICKIN' COOL.

You just aren't using ALL CAPS enough.

FREEBOOTERS OF LOST SKULL ISLAND

ZOMBIE HALFLING CANNIBALS OF THE GHOST SHIP OF CAPTAIN MCNULTY

ALL CAPS are very important for this genre.

Module pr-1: WATCH OUT BECAUSE NINJAS TOTALLY RULE!
(the pr-series modules feature dinopirates as the good guys and ninjas as the bad guys)

Ninjas are totally sweet. Not even dinopirates are as TOTALLY AWESOME as ninjas so the party better watch out because a sekret ninja is on the lose. The Ninja-Empress wants to fight ALL the time and she means business, and by business I mean totally flipping out and KILLING DINOPIRATES. Join the dinopirate crew and see if the entire crew is TOUGH enough to FIGHT OFF the ninja.

You think you can handle THIS action? Well maybe it's time for the ninja to TOTALLY FLIP OUT and come after you!!!

(better, Barsoomcore?)

Module doni-1: SHINOBI OF THE KATANA COAST
(Designed for a party of four PCs levels 1-5)

In a module designed to introduce players to the DINOPIRATES OF NINJA ISLAND setting, this adventure will take players to mysterious and exotic Ninja Island, where shadow-cloaked monk orders and ninja clans wage a secret war among the ruins of ancient empires, while pirates expoloit this conflict to raid the treasure hordes of the ruins. In this module, players will join up with the Dinopirates of Ninja Island, a group of fearless raiders who fly pterodactyls into combat, and will go on an adventure that will introduce them to all the warring factions in this grim and gritty, low-magic, angsty and brooding world!

An Open Letter to JPL

Hey JPL,

This idea is really, really taking hold of me. Like, I want to write an honest-to-heaven adventure for honest-to-Alpo publication. I think there's actual commercial potential in this.

So, before I do a LICK of work, I want to know where you stand and how you feel about the whole "Dinopirate" thing.

It's one thing for people to be posting their ideas in a thread for each other to use. It's quite another for somebody to write up an adventure or something and attempt to publish it -- whether or not there's money involved.

I would not be comfortable going ahead with anything more formal than what we have right now without your sign-off, blessing, whatever. It was your idea in the first place and you ought to have the chance to have it handled as you see fit.

It gets legally complicated as soon as people start writing and publishing stuff. Then the copyright sets in and ownership becomes an issue and I want to avoid as much entanglementiness as possible.

What I propose is this: Create an "official" online home for the Dinopirates project. Position somebody (yourself would be my first choice) as the copyright owner of the key pages on that website. That makes it clear where reproduction of that material comes from. Individual contributors can hold copyright on their contributions, but the core "Dinopirates" concept text is owned by you or whoever writes it.

Once that website exists, copyright comes into effect and everything's suddenly very clear. I'm pretty keen to write it and create the website and so on, but I don't want to do that without your blessing. I want to give you the chance to say, "No, that's not cool with me, don't do that," and then nobody gets offended or wastes their time or whatever. The thread can spin out into all sorts of fun ideas for individual's campaigns and that's as far as it will go.

I'd like to see it take on a life of its own. I honestly think there's something to it -- but it has to be handled correctly right from the start, or it won't take off. I've been down this road before with community projects and they're very hard to manage if ownership isn't perfectly clear. I'm willing to take on that role -- IF it's okay with you.

Anyway, let me know what your thoughts on all this are. Please feel free to email me at roarerbull at yahoo.com if you want to discuss further. Anyone else, likewise.

Thanks! And GREAT idea.

Barsoomcore is absolutely right. I think something more formal should be done with this idea. I would be more than willing to contribute. I think there is alot of potential in this thread and idea. (I also think it would be perfect for my kids to play in!)

The ninja of the Ninja Isles are constantly looking over their shoulders for if there is one force which can stop them it is the might samurai of their lost homeland. From time to time a samurai or band of them appear in the Thousand Teeth, they are searching for Nina Isles and the screens which were stolen. They come into the isles with their retainers and sorcerors and begin to track down ninja operatives throughout the isles seeking the lost artifacts. Ruthless and cunning the samurai will stop at nothing to get the screens and return them to homeland. They commonly are found trading with the Dino-pirate both when they come into the isles and when they leave. The dino-pirates provide the samurai with raptor mounts which the samurai take back to them homeland to breed. They are much prized by the warlords of their homeland.
