The Create-a-Setting Thread: Dinopirates of Ninja Island!

In the Ninja Isles clans of Ninja stuggle against each other for dominance while still trying to retain their honor. Outcast from a great civilization several centuries ago, the Ninja clans traveled far to the west, to the Sea of a Thousand Teeth (named for the thousands of islands and island clusters within it) fleeing in disgrace from their homeland. (secret-Ninja's were blamed for the assassination of the Enlightened One, a religous leader who brought a 200 years of peace and prosperity to a land troubled by war [Deeper secret ninja did not do it but were duped into helping by creating a diversion via an attempt to steal the Silk Screens of Harmony one of the 7 meditative obects the Enlightened One used to help the realm])

The Dino-Pirates are native to the Thousand Teeth islands, having survived the collapse of an ancient civilization that once inhabited the island clusters known as the Serpent Cluster. The Pirates themselves are lizardfolk who have domesticated Dinosaurs for their own purposes, including farming and war. They raid the other islands for fun and profit. Unsurprisingly other races inhabiting the islands have taken to sea-faring raids as well, both to defend their homes from the Dino-pirates as well as to attack those same pirates. No other race knows the secret of domesticating the massive reptiles which inhabit most of the Thousand Teeth.

Other races in islands include a forgotten tribe of savage elves who ride massive tigers into batter and worship the wounded Spirit of the Isle. they believe the isles were once one land and to heal the wounded spirit the Isles must be made whole again.

more to come I'm sure

New Monster

The PirateCat

This magical beast has grey fur, with a patch of black over the right eye resembling an eye patch. The torso of this creature is covered in alternating red and white stripes. This creature is a favored pet of sailors, namely pirates, who consider this creature lucky. It is a sign of bad luck and an ill omen to kill a piratecat.

New NPC

Calico Jack

The most notorious of all pirates, he is the originator of the infamous pirate symbol, the skull and crossbones. Many say he is the first pirate, while other say he is but a legend. They say that he single handedly defeated 73 vessels, the only rumor that many sailors agree upon.

All I ask is that you remember the fundamentals.

Dinosaurs.

Pirates.

Ninjas.

Robots.

Monkeys.

Having said that...I'd love to see the warforged or something similar in this setting. Maybe someone built them, maybe their ethership crashed centuries ago.

I was thinking about using the Mariner class from Dragonlance for the basic seafarer. Multiclass with pirate, barbarian, or rogue and you cover a wide range of pirates.

I think it's important that PCs can be dinosaurs [saurials? a variety of lizardmen?], pirates, ninjas, robots [warforged], or monkeys [vanara? Or just intelligent monkeys?].

New Monster

Dreaded Beast

Only heard of through rumors 'I knew a guy who knew a this other guy whose sister...' and is supposedly some gargantuan octopus which totally destruys entire ships leaving no survivors. Ships disappearing without trace are said to 'have been swallowed whole by the dreaded beast'

New Monster

Iron Sheep

These sheep, only found on the remote island of Ferron, has a fur of steel wire. Clothes made from this fabric (especially when enhanced by a 'Tailor' class (N)PC) have additional AC value...

The dwarves of the Thousand Teeth inhabit a small cluster of islands known collectively as the Forge Lands or Forge Cluster. They are few in number compared to the Ninja Clans and the Dino-pirate but their population is enough to sustain itself and their ways. The dwarves long ago created a race of magical automaton which has since taken on a life of their own (warforged mentioned above). The dwarves remain steadfastly Neutral in all the conflicts of the isles, save against those who attack them. They are often called upon to be negiators in the disputes of others. The Dwarves have developed steamship technology though finding a stable floating hull strong enough to mount the engine has eluded them. They are an eccentric race of engineers who have no problem selling their inventions to the higest bidder and frequently do so. No outside is ever allowed into the interior islands of the Forge Cluster. The dwarves are keenly inquisitive of the ancient culture that once inhabited these islands. Dwarves can any class though mages are extremely rare. Traveling dwarves are often skilled engineers, diplomats, and general seekers of knowledge.

New PrC

Transformer

Only available to the Warforged, this class allows them to assume fantastic shapes and gain amazing abilities. The Warforged changed their physical form into a specific type chosen when they first gain the class. They can transform into either a vehicle, weapon, or building. The Warforged have learned this art from an ancient race of Transformers said to come from the stars beyond.

New Monster

Whispers

Whispers are harmless dinos how are kept as pets by many children and families. Almost all whispers have red hued skin and large childlike eyes, sparkling with intellegence. Most whispers can be trained to perform simple tasks, and more hardier whispers can even be trained for combat. These dinos have gained the name whisper for almost never making any form of noise what-so-ever. They have a natural talent at being silent and unassuming.

The dreaded Isle of Night is rumored to be inhabited by the Lord of the Dead, and its is the source of all the Bone Ships that ply the seas. The Bone ships are crafted from the bones of giant whales, with sails made from the flesh of men and elves. All the races in the Thousand Teeth ahore the white Bone Ships. They are crewed by skeletons that retain most of the knowledge they had in life but none of the free will. The serve the Lord of Bones in every way. Their sole duty is to bring more living sould to the Lord of the Dead. What he does with these captives is unknown but speculation is rampant.

The Isle of night is guarded by fierce reefs almost invisible in the eternal gloom that surrounds the island.

Oft times the crews of the Bone Ships are led by living men only one or two per crew, who raise the dead of ships they have captured for more crews to man the ships of the dead.

Addendum to new monsters called Whispers

Whispers which are trained for combat go armed with cleaver like knives almost as large as they are themselves. Training is done with the aid of giant mudfish as bait...
