Oh, sure, Phil mentions it with no problem. I write an article about it and snapped on by every publisher in the book. Then again, he has a cushion of 400+ PDFs strapped on like armour to protect him (AKA +4 online firewall chain mail)
 

The theme for 4E is "New Edition Rules, 1980's feel". It adds a bunch of "new" stats to the game mix including Comeliness, THAC0, MHAC0, and Mana.

The resolution system doesn't actually use collectible cards, and is still d20 based, but the magic system does use collectible cards, thus clearing up room inthe PHB for more important stuff, like a much more detailed and complex mandatory miniatures system for combat that now takes up 200 pages in the playtest edition.
 


I think I should treat new editions games like like I do OSes: Skip one every now and then, wait until it gets good support and the bugs are worked out until adopting it, and use my existing applications as long as possible.

If Andy's comments on the ECL races thread are any indication, 4e is going to be the spiritual equivalent of windows ME. :]
