Phil, you hurt me so...

Now for another typical post in the 4E threads: "The guy that states he has enough stuff with 3E material that he likely won't buy 4E." :D

To be honest, I could care less if 4E comes out. It's not so much as issue of having so much material with the current edition that I could keep playing for the rest of my days and not go over areas I've covered in prior campaigns. It's more of an issue of for the first time in my nearly 20 years of gaming in one form or another, I'm totally content with games I run. Granted, I'm working on my own MOTHER OF ALL HOUSERULE DOCS to combine all of the elements from various fantasy D20 sources into one easy to use book. (That way I don't have to haul multiple books around.) However, that very fact that I'm going through all that trouble means that I'm more than happy with the system.

If, and from all documented proof that's a big IF, 4E comes out in the next year or two. I'll give it a look. If it's compatible with 3.5 or far and away better, I'll pick it up. I'll give it a look-see either way if for nothing else than curiosity, but I can't say for certain that I'll buy it. I've been cutting back more and more lately on my purchases, so the coming of 4E could actually save me a lot of money. Except if guys like Phil keep churning out great D20 material for 3.5 and the Modern line. ;)

Phil, if 4e comes out, does that mean you get to re-write all your books?

I think it means I get to find a job. I doubt 4e will be OGL. Of course, using the OGL I could just keep producing 3.5 support (probably without the use of the D20 license) if there were a demand for such material.

Oh, sure, Phil mentions it with no problem. I write an article about it and snapped on by every publisher in the book. Then again, he has a cushion of 400+ PDFs strapped on like armour to protect him (AKA +4 online firewall chain mail)

Naw, I'm getting mine in e-mail. And this wasn't meant as a completely serious thread (though it is a serious subject and it's probably not wise to poke the bear).

I have mixed feelings about the idea of 4E.

On the positive side, this site would suddenly get much, much more popular. It would do for EN World what 3E did for Eric's site in the first place. Juicy scoops, rumours, all the stuff that really made Eric's site the must-be place.

I'd also be a lot more excited about 4E than about random d20 products, which tend to have a "been there, done that" feel about them to me these days.

However, on the negative side.... I don't want to have to learn a new rule system and shell out loads more money. I'd definitely go along with 4E simply because I run this site and I'd kinda need to.

Plus, the OGL/d20 STL issues might well affect EN Publishing negatively.

So, a mixed bag, all told.

If I could afford it, I'd hire you to keep putting out material for my own personal campaign!!!

Seriously though, I hope you continue to support the OGL even if 4E isn't open-sourced. Ronin Arts does great work.

It's, at the CLOSEST, 2 years away. Wizards has stated that there's not even a foundation of 4E being built yet, much less any kind of playtesting. Out of curiosity, how long did 3E get playtested? It felt like forever...
