The Dance of Souls

(I'm fine with using the wand. No need to retcon it, it's a good purchase in general, and with diehard Gur won't be dropping incredibly fast. I didn't know where the money came from, and I can say that Gur has no idea about any sort of "spellcasting". I'm actually having a bit of fun enjoying this whole conversation about "what the hell do you mean I can use it and you can't." I mean, we are raising a real question about the way the game is designed so that I just "magically" use magic.)

"Trying to get out of walking are you? You could use the excercise. Hell, we could run most of the way, I'd be satisfied with that. I'm fine with walking in general. Riding though might be better for pursuit. They need to have a wagon to transport the art objects, and that would give us a speed advantage, wouldn't it?"

well I second the motion of pooling our funds together. after buying some more food I can put in roughly 75 gp. How about everyone else?
OOC: We wouldn't happen to have some advance money left over would we?

Banion Lorish

"After buying more food? That's a good point. If I spend two gold on provisions, which would bring me up to enough for a bit more than one week, I'd have 14 gold and 2 silvers left to contribute."

The alarming finances are starting to make Banion wonder if he can actually afford to be an adventurer.

ooc: The amount of the advance was exactly equal to the cost of a fully charged wand of cure light wounds. I think it's safe to say that the advance money is all gone. I know it was a bit of meta-gaming suggesting we purchase one, but it is a fairly basic bit of adventuring equipment, don't you think? We ought to have some way to heal ourselves, after all, and short of trying to recruit a Cleric, this is probably the best way. There's simply no other healing item as cost effective as a wand of cure light wounds.

(Assuming Banion and Gur go to the temple where the wand was bought:)

The temple, as it turns out, is one of Grendath, the Laughing Warrior. The priest who sold the wand greets the two with the words "Back again? I assume this is the man you described and I told you seemed to be able to use the wand. He doesn't look convinced." Turning to Gur, he says "Well, young man, would you like to test that ability with a different wand? I have one just for that purpose."

Rose Marie cautiously counts out her money as well, then thinks to herself. After a moment, she says, "And after I buy some more food and stuff, I could contribute about 70, but that would wipe me out. And I really don't know if it's a good idea to spend all of our pooled money just on getting there. What happens if we get there and need more money? I personally think that if we can't have at least 70 gold pieces in reserve before we get there, then we should just walk or find a cheaper method."

The priest gives Gur a different wand, and begins to explain.
"To use a wand, you need to concentrate for a few seconds on the power within. This one, as well as the one you bought, hold a weak curing spell common to many divine spellcasters - including those who may pass as hunters. Even if they have not strengthened their divine connection yet to cast spells, they can use it.
As you concentrate, point at or touch your target, and speak the command word. The word for the wand you are holding is "Remedy." Now wait a second, we do need a visible target first..." with the last words, he draws his hand over a blade, leaving a wound on his hand slowly trickling with blood.

"Now, try it."

"Concentrate on the power within a stick? Right."

"I don't cast spells, doc. I don't 'pass' for a hunter. I'm a regular guy. I live in the wilderness more than half the time because it's the way of my father, and his father. The way I see it, this is about as unnatural as you can get."

Gur holds the stick out, looks at the wound, and says, "remedy".

Assuming it works, Gur is a bit surprised at the parlor trick, and perhaps a bit slackjawed. "Wait... now you do me!"

He hands over the wand, pulls out one of his less decayed hunting knifes, and gives himself a good nick on his finger.
