The Dance of Souls

"Well, I would like to get the search team first as well, but if they do not arrive today, I think we should make good use of the night. I would like to get away from here as soon as possible. I wasn't thinking that we all disguised ourselves, just Azaroth or Gur. Then the one in disguise could get them to open the gate and we could rush in."

OOC: I was picturing the keep as an enclosed tower. Is that correct, or is there an outer wall? If there's a wall, I like the climbing idea, assuming that someone can drop Beamer a rope.

After half a day walking and climbing, you reach a point where you can see the entrance to the keep, a huge gate, with walls to each side. The parts you can see suggest a square keep, partly jutting out of the mountain. On a second glance, it almost looks like the mountain... crashed onto the keep, as opposed to the keep built into the mountain.

ooc: Sounds like an outer wall to me. We might even be able to get in by climbing up the mountain first and climbing *down* into the keep.

"Ok. If the sun sets fully and the search team has still not arrived, let's see if we can climb up above the keep and see down inside. I'll need some help climbing, though," says Beamer with a downcast glance.

(*notes XP penalty for greedyness* :p

I've just been waiting to see what plan you come up with so I can better screw it.)

As night falls, it becomes clear that the search team won't return anytime soon. The group begins its preparation for a climb-in assault.

(I'd like a few climb checks here, now, or whatever method you use to scale this obstacle. The mountain at this point is DC 15; the distance you need to clear is 20 feet upwards.)

OOC: I belive the plan is for Banion to do the climbing and then lower a rope for the rest of us. Beamer will then take 10 on the rope climb.

"A steeper climb than I had hoped." Banion mutters.

"Azaroth, you said something about getting a grappling hook. Did you? Could I borrow it? I'd rather it took a few falls than I did."

Once this is set up, Banion tries to catch the hook on a suitable surface up the hill. After one false start, he manages to sink it. (2nd attempt succeeds)

"That should make it a little easier. Let me head up first, then I'll be able to help from up top."

At this point, Banion should be able to climb up by taking 10, since with the rope the DC is 10, correct? Banion has a +3 climb modifier.

Once at the top, Banion will check to make sure the rope is secure, and find a place where he can plant his feet and get a hold on the rope. Holding it steady, he'll try to aid another on the climb checks for the others.
