The Definition of Hit Points--is it really a deal-breaker?

Does it really matter how they define "hit points," "damage," etc. in 5E?

After reading all the posts, I have to say that the question to pose for D&D 5e is not hit points or no hit points, but more importantly, "how many hit points?"

Agreeing with many, I believe that hp can remain defined as abstract, but less hp for PCs and monsters will speed up the game (my number 1 wish for the next iteration).

With a mod or option for different "wound" options I think that 5e can appeal to many groups.

(also, I tried to give xp to many of you in the posts, but unfortunately I need to spread the xp more before I hit you again.) Keep the constructive chatter going.

I have my preferences about HP but it's not a dealbreaker. However, I hate inconsistency. For example, if HP represent dodging blows for example, how can falling cause HP damage? You can't dodge the ground.
