All excellent ideas.

I just had a sorta-revelation: what if Tira Medon (the paladin of the flame) had a child before her merger? There is this "bloodline of the flame" the CotSF (and all the keepers, up to Jalia) has tried to suppress because they would be the heir-apparent to both Thrane AND the Church? (and put a lot of cardinals out of business)

Now, someone is out to reveal that secret, and a sinister force (Vol? Inspired?) is trying the assassinate the Heir to the Flame?

Why not just have the McGuffin be the ancient regalia of the Dhakanni emperor, which could be used to reunite the feuding hobgoblin clans and reunite the empire? Since Dhakanni ruins can be found all over Eberron, there's plenty of globetrotting, and it's definitely an important object that doesn't even have to be magical in nature.
