The DM, The Former DM, and the Wasteland in between

You know, this is REMARKABLY like what happened to me in high school. Mind you, that was 1e and 21 years ago, but a competent DM handed the game over to someone else and then proceeded to play a player-killing antipaladin.

It completely sucked.

Some DMs have trouble no longer being in charge. This may be one of those occasions.

:) Welcome to the EN Boards! :)

It states in the core books that evil is for villains and monsters (which are the province of the DM, not for player characters). Your new DM would certainly be well within their rights to say they are running a Heroic Campaign and that evil alignments are off limits to PCs. If the old DM doesn't like it, have the new DM ask if he believes that the final say on how a game is run is the DM's call. If the old DM agrees, end of story. If the old DM disagress, tell him to go brush up on his DMG... ;)

Welcome to the boards. Like PC, I had a similar experience under 1e AD&D, and it was...21 years ago. Gah.

Anyhow, if your newbie DM could be coaxed into posting here, we might be able to offer some suggestions. D&D is, after all, a social game, and if someone is being anti-social, they can ruin it. Failing that, some more details of the game would be helpful.

Make the DM outlaw characters with Chaotic Evil alignment. Then do so again with Chaotic Neutral and finally with Neutral Evil and maybe even Lawful Evil.

Or tell the bastard he's disrupting the game and if he doesn't stop it'll end. The game that is.

Welcome, Vanna. First off, let me complement you on your thread title. I am a connoisseur of such things and thought it very good. :)

Your problem is a simple one. The ex-DM is an attention hogging turd. Like some entertainer who's best days of fame and glory are long since behind him, he continues to try and stay in the headlines by causing trouble. In this case he's trying to assert control over the new DM because he's very insecure about not being in charge.

Here are your choices: A) Tell him he's being an ass and no one is having any fun because of it; and B) Tell him if he doesn't tone it down and switch character types he'll get booted from the group. Trust me, it's better to play nothing than to bang your head against the wall for an entire session watching a psychodrama unfold before you. That ex-DM oughta be ashamed of himself but is probably too much a doofus to realize it.

I agree with King_Stannis and Piratecat. This is a personality issue with the ex-DM not having the grace to be supportive of the new DM. If anything, he should be extra-supportive of the new DM.

We don't really have hazing here, do we? Unless you count one of the mods saying hello, but that doesn't always happen to the new guys :D

Maybe we should start hitting newbies with fish, or something. Or maybe not.
