Solano County (next door, with bigger cities, like Vallejo, Fairfield, and Vacaville) has a tax rate of something like 7.25 or 7.50.
But li'l ol' Napa County, whose biggest town is Napa (pop around 70k, I think; the whole county was only around 100k around 15 years ago, I think), is at 7.75, and pushing its way to 8.25.
Sheesh... We're not a big urban center. If they're trying to increase revenues for the county roads (and this doesn't include the city roads; the city of Napa ranks among the worst in the Bay Area, you have to zig-zag to miss the potholes), why not charge tourists, vineyards, and commuters? I barely travel outside of town, why should I have to pay for it?
Luckily, it's up for election, so I can vote against it.
Though it'll probably still pass...
