The Draconomicon and Complete Warrior at 60% off? Insane but true!

No self-serving bump on my account... but I figured people would want to know that my order is indeed shipping from different locations.

Oregon for the Noble's Handbook. (My usually)
Nevada for the Draconomicon.

Walmart, Toys-R-Us, and a few other companies decided to *voluntarily* start charging sales tax for everyone based on the state they live in.

Actually, Florida at the least, is very militant about sales tax. You're supposed to pay the salestax in your state on all stuff anyway, but the company isn't required to collect it unless they're in your state. Some state's have really gone after big companies for that money.

Please oh PLEASE tell me this sale will last at least til February 1st, which is the absolute earliest that I'll have the cash at hand to order this stuff. Damn, these are some good deals. Let's see...

$24.47 Unearthed Arcana (30% off)
$08.00 D&D Miniatures Harbinger Entry Pack (60% off)
$15.98 The Draconomicon (60% off)
$23.07 Book of Exalted Deeds (30% off)
$10.78 Complete Warrior (60% off)
$15.98 Dragonlance: Campaign Setting (60% off)

$98.28 total, with no shipping. That's for books which would normally cost a grand total of $194.74! A savings of $96.46. Holy crap, I SO hope this sale lasts til next saturday. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let it last til next saturday!

You pay state sales tax if your in the state the company is based in... Like for Amazon.com people in Washington State must pay them... With stinks cause I'm, not from this state nor would I ever claim to be but that's probably off topic.
By my understanding, if the company does not have a brick-and-mortar outlet in your state, then they do not have to handle the sales tax on the item. But, and this is an oft overlooked "but", sales tax is still supposed to be paid -- by the recipient.

So, if you buy anything from Amazon, remember to contact the appropriate tax authority in your state. Or not -- I'm pretty much the last person who'd advocate giving anything to the government, beit power, money, or the benefit of the doubt, but that's a major thread killer, so I'll stop.

so this is a question for y'all. I live in Canada and even with exchange and shipping etc it is still cheaper by far than amazon.ca. Would this be a problem? ie. will they still ship to Canada now that amazon.ca is operating?

No problem, sometimes amazon.ca is cheaper then amazon.com and some people order from them at sites like fatwallet.com and they are professional shoppers.

Now that my county is trying for another sales tax hike (we're already at 7.75%, for goodness' sake! and we're a small, semi-rural county! it's not like we're San Francisco! sheesh!), I'm even more eager to avoid paying sales taxes and use tax (use tax is what you pay on out-of-state and out-of-county(?) transactions, the difference between the sales tax you paid and the sales tax your county collects).

So I throw a lot of my business to out-of-state companies. (eBay sellers, Amazon, TalonComics.) When the state of CA starts going after the big companies (e.g., Amazon), it'll be a matter of how much I'll be saving by going out-of-state.

That's it? :)

It’s 8.6 for this lovely state of rain...

Also I get to play sales tax on amazon.com. :(

Anyhow all that said amazon.com normal 30 % off is hard for me to beat. If it’s not discounted to less than 20 % I save my orders up and give them to FRP games.

Solano County (next door, with bigger cities, like Vallejo, Fairfield, and Vacaville) has a tax rate of something like 7.25 or 7.50.

But li'l ol' Napa County, whose biggest town is Napa (pop around 70k, I think; the whole county was only around 100k around 15 years ago, I think), is at 7.75, and pushing its way to 8.25.

Sheesh... We're not a big urban center. If they're trying to increase revenues for the county roads (and this doesn't include the city roads; the city of Napa ranks among the worst in the Bay Area, you have to zig-zag to miss the potholes), why not charge tourists, vineyards, and commuters? I barely travel outside of town, why should I have to pay for it?

Luckily, it's up for election, so I can vote against it. :) Though it'll probably still pass...
