I run worlds in which the reward is tied to the place that it is found rather than to wealth-by-level. Thus, it is sometimes possible to gain a rich haul with only meager opposition, while at other times a powerful creature might have nothing. I place treasure based upon what fits the setting, not directly upon what fits the PCs.

An admirable approach, imho, and one that I share. :)

I too like to use weird monsters, especially for low-level pcs. Not so long ago, in my low-magic setting, I used things like giant piss ants and a mosquito swarm to challenge a party of eight 1st-level pcs to great effect!

As an aside- Raven, in your other thread (the underground one), those were dire corbies, weren't they? I've been wanting to confirm that with you for months, but I know you wanted to leave the details un-filled in, in case your players check out ENWorld...

Yeesh.... :\

If I had a nickel for everyone who has clobbered me with that particular pun here in EW....

Ah well. :)

Will you still throw the .pdf together though? :o

At this point, there are 275 views, and only a few people have actually commented. Of course, the people who commented are all shining examples to be followed, and I might throw together a pdf just for you. Otherwise, meh. Let the lurking masses cut & paste.
