The Druid makes me chew the furniture

I'm hoping for some utility forms. Druids, to me, aren't just shapeshifting to kick butt, it's the scouting in hawk form or sneaking around as a common dog, that kind of thing.
Hmm. I kind of like those ideas, except that its very important to make sure they don't make other characters obsolete. And that's tough. Letting someone scout as a dog or a bird, for example. How many skills is that worth? A substantial Stealth bonus, at the least. Possibly Bluff, if you want people to believe that you're a dog or a bird. Perception, if the bird has better vision.

I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I do think that its important to keep this sort of thing from overrunning other forms of skill use.

Make the powers have a skill training requirement then? I'm interested in seeing what implements a Druid has because the only one at the moment that actually makes sense to me is staffs.

If your druid is bothering you, put a curse on him so he can only shift into a woodchuck/termite/hyper puppy, so he'll be the one chewing furniture, not you.

... Oh, this thread was about something else?

I'm hoping for 2 things from the druid:

1) Its a controller
2) Its a more exciting controller than the wizard. After playing a wizard, I didn't get a lot of fun out the class, and I hope to see some more interesting options from our next controller.

I'm thinking Primal Controller, Int, Wis, and Con as primary stats. Wis is the primary stat, there will be a more melee oriented build with Con secondary. The ranged controller build will use Wis primary, Int secondary. It may be that Dex is used instead of Int (I hope so, as I want elves to be good druids).

They will have Con+12 hp at level 1, like most Strikers and Leaders. I think the melee build will get up to hide armor proficiency.

That's what I think for now. :)

I'm thinking we'll see weaker powers of shapechange actually be stuff like "encounter move action - you change in to a bird and fly up to your movement speed and then change back"

or longer term ones for actual fighting forms could be similar to stances, or they could borrow from the barbarian's where you can change shape to deal massive damage as long as you have some daily powers remaining... that sort of thing.

I could get behind that kind of encounter power, very cinematic...the Druid flowing seamlessly between animal forms, popping up from the bird form into a big bear to take a swipe at an enemy before backing away, shedding the fur, and letting loose with some control-y powers.

Personally, I'd like to see a lot of Close Bursts from the Druid as a Controller, as the very fundamentals of nature change as they walk through battle.

As a Controller, maybe the Druid will have its pick between Auras instead of Implements? Hrm. Let me go thoughtfully chew on my Barcalounger. :)

I am bitting at the bit to see it in the hopes that it is even remotely like the Druids I use in my stories/settings. Though most likely they won't be :P

Most people probably wouldn't want to have Druids being; creepy, bizarre beings constantly in flux, ie: eyes changing shape/colour, claws growing back and forth, etc. Who characteristically are somewhat mad and wish to reclaim everything back to a nature that THEY control (think semi like the Pagans from Thief).

I am super-excited about the druid. Obviously, he won't have all his versatility from 3.x, but I hope he'll still be able to do a variety of things.

Basically, I want to be able to cast spells on bad guys while flying above the fight as a bird. If I can do that, I'll be happy with this druid.
