The Ebon Mirror: Dark Marks (Dunamin judging)

"Indeed. We can leave right away. Thank you for this Captain Korrigan. It will be my honor to repay this debt to you some day. And if some gold would help relieve the sting of that which you may be giving up for helping us, then accept this from me." Kama'zer says while pulling out her gold pouch. Pulling 5 gold out of it, she tosses the pouch to the Captain and tucks the remaining coins in the front of her shirt. If he starts to refuse or complain, Kama'zer says sternly "I said take it. Or do I have to get nasty again?"

"No problem, no point moaning now I've agreed. We'll sail straight on through until around dusk, should be there shortly after that. All you folks need do is keep half an eye out for river pirates."

He gives Kama'zer a long lingering look as he pockets her gold and leaps aboard the Silver Rooster. A few minutes of fast and efficient work and the boat is pulling out into a slow current. Korrigan waits until they are away from the village and on a straight run of river before ducking below decks and coming up with a number of strange devices each featuring a mirror; he carefully places them in holes in the deck and it is soon clear that he can see around Rooster from every angle.

For around three hours they make steady progress with the river current gradually picking up pace.

Callen does not do to well with the river travel; he can only imagine what travel on the shifting seas would do to his stomach. He remains seated where ever he can find a dry location and tries not to pay attention to the river banks streaming past.

Ts'iri was curious about Callen's reaction to ship travel. "Are you ill? You don't look so good." Ts'iri didn't understand it. She was fine. Actually she was enjoying the trip quite a bit. Something about being on a boat seem familiar and comforting, but as far as she knew the only time she'd been on the water was when they fished her out of the sea.

"This is actually my first time on a boat. I've not had much cause to leave Daunton all my life. Now that I am, things are certainly different than I had expected, from the woods, to even a simple boat ride." replied the older man.

Ts'iri laughs. "This is the first time on a boat I can remember, but if anything I'm having the opposite reaction than you. Well, if there is anything I can do, let me know." Ts'iri waits for a moment to see if he says anything before heading off to examine the boat.

Kama'zer spends her time aboard the boat learning about everything she can and how it all works. She is especially impressed with the Captain's mirror system letting one man see so many needed things at the same time.

Mri'Thas was feeling as good as his human couterpart. He kept a firm grip on a solid wood piece of the boat. Seemingly disoriented and pale (yes, even more pale than his light yellow and green color) he says nothing so far.

As dusk approaches the Rooster rounds a corner and the party can see the tell tale signs of a village some miles ahead. A smoke trail curls up and they can just spy the edges of some farm land.

In there immediate vicinity there are scrubby patches of trees lining the river and muddy isles seperate the river into three narrow channels. Korrigan's face is the picture of concentration as he deftly adjust the rudder time and time again expertly winding their way through the mud banks.

Then the group spy a sudden flash of movement and out of the foilage on the river side two creatures leap onto the deck. Their silhouettes appear human, but one glance into their hood reveals the vicious features of a wild eyed rat! As they shriek rats pout onto the deck from all angles!

Korrigan swears and the boat shudders as it slams into a mud bank running aground.

The Wererat hisses and attempts to bite Kama'zer with its filthy yellowed fangs, but to the creatures evident frustration it fails to pierce the Gith's armor.

The rats bite at the party seemingly indiscriminately. Three sink their teeth into Kama'zer (9 damage). Four penetrate Ts'iri's defenses (12 damage). Three sink their teeth into Riar'lon (9 damage), and wound Callen (6 damage).

[sblock=Terrain]The central raised area of the boat is around 5ft. high and is solid enough to stand on, though getting up will require an athletics check. The mud is only a few feet from the deck and will require no jump check to reach, though it does appear slippery. The river is not particularily deep and the current is sluggish.[/sblock]

[sblock=OAs]Now many of you should probably have recieved opportunity attacks. However, as I am lazy I am going to allow everyone to take 2 OAs, with the exception of Mri'thras who is too far away. If any of these hit AC 15 you will be awarded experience for an additional Giant Rat at the end of the encounter, but none will be removed from the battle grid. Hope that seems fair.[/sblock]
