D20 Vampire would actually be cool. One of the reasons I don't play Vampire is that I just don't like their system. It'd be great to have it in D20. And the best part about that is that I'd be able to use their vampires in regular D&D games.

That's assuming it's a D20 game, anyway. Who knows.

I don't know that they woudl do this. I heard the reason the GURPS version of their games went out of production was because those versions sold better than their own. Now this time they would be publishing it, so the revenue would stay in house, but I'm not sure they are ready to split their market. Besides that, there is the problem with some of the work by necessity becoming Open Gaming Content, and I really don;t see them doing that. Still, here's hoping. I'd love to have Vampire Dark Ages for my D20 game.

Urban myth. Vampire has been, consistently, one of the best-selling RPGs on the market. (Not in D&D's league, of course, but then what is?)

So far as what WW is announcing...

*puts on evil face*

I'm not gonna tell youuuuuu....

:D

(Mostly because I'd be broiled alive and forfeit my soul if I did...) ;)

Are we going to like it or are we going to groan? ;)

Yes. :D

(Edit: Just to avoid any confusion or wild guessing, I want to clarify that this response is entirely me being a smart-ass, and not me dropping any sort of hidden hint. You wanna know, you wait until Saturday. Ya ain't gettin' nothin' outta me, copper!)

Not doubting you at all. I own at least as many WW books as i do TSR/WotC supplements. I was referring more to Mage and Werewolf whose sales have never matched Vampire's. It was just hearsay, however, but I do belive that that split in their market was a bad decision. Any potential buyer who was already playing GURPS might not find it within themselves to buy a Storyteller version.

True, but then the reverse could be argued as well. That is, a GURPS/D20/whatever version of a WW game might well attract people who would otherwise never pick it up. (As witnessed by a few previous replies to this thread, in fact.)

So which is the greater risk--that someone who might have bought the book won't, or that someone who wouldn't have looked at the book will? And the answer, of course, is that if WW is in control of both versions, there's no downside.

Personally, I wouldn't play a D20 Vampire if such a thing ever came out. To me, the WW system works for Vampire--better, in my own mind, than D20 would. That doesn't mean I would oppose a D20 version were it to come out. I'm all for anything that brings more people to the company who pays the majority of my checks. :D

(Inevitable disclaimer: I am, once again, speaking in hypotheticals, in response to Skade's points. Anyone who takes this as a hint of things to come is a doofus. :))

That is a very good point, especially since the Storyteller gamnes have the luxury of a very loyal fan base. It would be a good tool to bring more players into their system. In fact, I've turned on of my most recent group onto White Wolf because he was so impressed with the Scarred Lands supplements I own that he gave WW a chance.

I woud not run a pure D20 vampire game myself wither. The original sytem matches perfectly what I aim for in those Chronicles, but I would enjoy having the options for players and NPCs in my D20 games.

Oh, and I'm not taking any of this as hints as to what is up over there, but I am very curious. I can't imagine what it would be.

They have done Vampires, Werewolves, Mages, Changelings, and Ghosts (twice if I understand what Orpheus is all about). They have done Demons, but not Angels so that is a possibilty, but doubtful. Most other shapeshifter have been covered. Asian vampires are done. Hunters, both Embued and mundane have been done. What is left in that mileu? Oni? Spirits as a playable thing, rather than toold of Mage and Werewolf?

I'd love to see some kind of sci-fi game myself, not Aeon/Trinity, but a more generic near future setting.

Yeah, as said above: urban myth on the GURPS thing. I've played both versions, and even as someone who quite enjoys a nice round of GURPSing with my afternoon tea - the GURPS V:tM books? Garbage. Did not translate over well at all. The people who wanted to play V:tM bought V:tM books, not the GURPSquivalent. They were pulled because they didn't sell; not because they were selling too much.

*shrug* Heh, but on the other hand, it's not like SJ Games was out a huge ammount, either. The production was probably along the lines of "Hey you, Print-monkey - I want you to take this stack of vampire books, GURPS 'em up for me and have it ready for publication in say 3 weeks. I don't need anything fresh or original from you, just make this setting work with our rules."

I think it might be that new fantasy game designed by Justin Achilli. I think the name of it was Frostholm. Rumor has it that it will be d20 compatible.
