[The End of the World of Darkness] What's White Wolf got up its sleeve?

I think it might be that new fantasy game designed by Justin Achilli. I think the name of it was Frostholm. Rumor has it that it will be d20 compatible.

Where did you hear about this? The name has me intrigued. When you say d20 compatible do you mean it would be dual statted for both systems?

Gen Con happens in April?

You're right thought.... Those swine, hyping something a month before Gen Con!

You're right. They put this up about a month and a half ago. I believe it was Trinity they hyped about a year in advance and every month or so, they would drop a little hint.

They only hyped Demon for about 6 months or so.

Exalted was hyped for about a year I think before anyone really knew what it was going to be.

I just get erked how they are all so top secret. I much preffer Wizard's approach. They tend to give out info as much as possible or at least enough so that you have a good idea what a product is about.

Sure, sometimes it doesn't work out (remember the Book of Vile Darkness?) but that wasn't Wizards hyping it, it was us.

And we are going to give out info. At GenCon. You know, as promised.

Which, of course, is just an outrageous idea in its own right, I guess. Never seen the tactic of making a big announcement at GenCon and letting con attendees know in advance beforehand so they can hear it first hand — oh, wait.

I can appreciate that. In fact, I'll admit that this time it isn't too bad. One month or so isn't unreasonable I don't suppose. I think I'm just a little bitter about how WW has done things in the past. Still, I guess if it works for the company, you should do it.

At least it is better than the Trinity or Exalted campaign.

Regardless, it got my attention, so I guess it succeeded. ;)

Oh yeah,

...you think the hype/announcement thing is annoying, try being the lead on one of White Wolf's Wolfpacks (demo team) and having one of these moments happen. ;)

People start to bug the snot out of you, because, in theory, you should know 'this', when in fact you're stuck waiting like everyone else.

Heheh, it could be worse though.

Hopefully it's something cool, or another nice liscence, but I doubt it's anything like one of their World of Darkness settings (including Vampire) being converted to d20 - mainly due to the apathy a significant portion of the Storyteller fan-base has versus d20. IE: 'roleplayer' versus 'rollplayer' BS.

To me, gaming is gaming and all of it's fun. :D

Will they finally admit that the storyteller system sucks for combat?

Actually,

...and this is just my personal opinion on it, Storyteller is pretty easy on combat - sans getting to anal about mods to your attack rolls and such.

Most of my combats, both as a storyteller and a player, have been pretty rapid.

Although I do think one of the bigger holes/problems can be when you start adding things into the mix, ala special rounds, scopes on weapons, lasersights, et al.

It's not the worst combat I've ever had, I'm still twitching from a TPK in a GURPS Spec Ops/Law Enforcement game I played in a few years ago. It got nasty, deadly, and drawn way out.

I should known my PC was doomed to getting beat one when I based him on "Kurt Russell" characters in John Carpenter movies. :D

Personally, both for writing for and playing, I like the Storyteller System better than d20 if you can make a few changes for it. I think over the years in trying to make the system easier I think they've hurt it. With a few over all tweaks it is fantastic.

I know some people would say "a few tweaks to any system and its better", sure, but for d20 I feel I have to go in and address a lot of little issues. With Storyteller it is some core-level mechanics changes and away you go.

Also keep in mind, while I like Storyteller mechanics, I don't enjoy playing in the settings very much, I find Vampire/WW/Mage all interesting to read but never as fun to play as they books would have you belive.

I'd love to see OGL Storyteller rules though to write some stuff for that :D
