Absolutely and first, congratulations to all the nominees. It's nice to see your time, dedication, and hard work recognized.

Now, please feel free to check my math, but none of the nominated "Game of the Year" contenders are available to play at GenCon Online; Root & Thirsty Sword Lesbians offer a handful (~10) in-seat play. What a missed opportunity for those game designers and the RPG writ large. It's like leaving money on the table.

Arc Dream and Free League are unfortunately products of their own success, which is unfortunate because One Ring, Impossible Landscapes, and T2000 were all legitimately excellent in many categories. Literally everything those companies put out is good.

I don’t know what that means.

I think it means it devalues the award?

If you don't care, why should others, and if others don't care about what the award is or if it even matters, what is the point of the awards in the first place.

For example, if the Oscars or Academy Awards had mostly movies no one ever heard of, and most were budget movies from the likes of the Asylum, others may start to think it's prestige was lower than it once was.

It also the reason the Academy Awards WILL have movies no one has ever heard of, but almost always has a few that are high profile that everyone has heard of and are rooting for, and one of those will at least win one or two of the more prestigious awards, even if the no name movies win several as well.

Not that it matters to me. It's whatever the judges feel are important for the award here. I have no real interest in the matter, so it's all good whoever and whatever is nominated. More power to them and good luck to the nominees.

I know I probably won't vote (if it even becomes an option this time around) simply because mine would be an uniformed vote (don't know much if anything about most of those nominated. I've heard of CoC and Root, but they are in categories that I don't know much about the games they are competing against. I don't feel it should simply be a popularity contest of which ones I've heard about, but of which game is the best the category), but hopefully it's a successful awards, and congratulations to those nominated and hope they all get the recognition they deserve.

Why are you dead naming Minerva McJanda?
Why the accusatory tone? If "Minerva McJandra" is the name printed in the work in question, how is anybody supposed to know it's no longer to be used? You could have passed on the more helpful information of the name McJandra prefers to go by now rather than lashing out at Morrus for using the information he was given straight from the finished product.

I had to do some research just to figure out what the heck you were talking about. For those who don't know, Jay Illes is listed as one of the people who worked on Voidheart Sympathy which was nominated for Best Layout and Design. In 2020, she announced that "Jay Illes is no more," and she would now be known as Minerva McJanda. Which is cool. Morrus may be a lot of things, an entrepeneur, a saint, and all around good guy, but I've never seen him use his platform to treat anyone like garbage or with disrespect. Likely he received the notification with Minerva's former name and didn't do any exhaustive research on it. Which I think is perfectly reasonable.

While I am flattered by your estimation of my influence, I'm just the messenger. I report the news, but I don't presume to tell you what you should care about.

Indeed. That's just the announcement up there I quoted directly from the ENnies website. But now I know I'll definitely change that in the news piece here (it'd be up to the ENnies to change it in the original).

Same here. If you couldn't tell, I tried to give a positive response at the end of my post. The first part was me trying to explain why some may have the reaction to what you were asking about. You said you didn't know what that meant, so I was trying to give an explanation, not expressing my feelings on the nominations. In that, I was simply a messenger as well, not trying to actually imply this is what was happening, but what could be a perception of things.

On my side of things...

I am more than happy for those who have been nominated and hope the best for them in the contest.
