D&D 5E The Fall of Blackmoor (IC)

Ngoya

Seeing the rock gnome Ngoya smiles warmly. Her people had great regard for the clever race, their wares were much sought after in trades and they were an honest folk.

Turning to Jacobim though, she inclines her head slighty. "My appologies, but I am not a protector." she flicks her head to Lattimer, "As I have told the warrior Lattimer, I am a scout and a hunter. I will be used as such or not at all."

Moving past him she moves to Jeremiah and bows deeply. "Master gnome I am Ngoya of the Forest Deer, it is an honour to meet one of your esteemed race. My people had a great fondness and respect for your tribe and I am delighted to hear you may be joining us." She quickly looks about his person. "May I ask what kind of trade you follow? I greatly prize the arrowheads and toys your kind normally trade with my people."

OOC: Din Din, in the guise of the almost-noble Gareth Silvertongue, wants to get a room for one night, at a wealthy standard. I believe that is 4 gp. After that he wants to find a place to store his stuff, perhaps leaving it at a trustworthy inkeeper with a note that a "friend" will pick up this package in a day or two.

Jeremiah, Ngoya, and Jacobim

Lattimer laughs, a spiteful sounding guffaw, as he looks at the gnome, "What are you going to do, little one, polish our boots? Make little toy soldiers to fend off the elves?" The scarred man looks to Jacobim to share his mean-spirited mirth, then back at Jeremiah, "You wouldn't last five minutes where we're going."

Din Din

Gareth finds nice accommodations in Second Wall District. As for storage, there are actually several banking establishments that lease storage space for a modest fee.

OOC: Stuff like that would be counted under the standard lifestyle expenses at Comfortable and higher.

Gareth now has some time to himself to explore the city or look for work.

Din Din (as Gareth Silvertongue)

Having found a room at a luxurious place in the Second Wall district, Din Din takes his time having a warm bath, washing the sweat and dirt from his body, and changing into his fine clothes. He hides two daggers in the folds of his clothes, and keeps his moneypouch on his person. All his other possessions are folded and neatly tucked into his backpack.

On his way out, Gareth greets the proprietor, saying he'll be back later today, and heads towards a banking establishment. Entering the building, he formally introduces himself as Gareth the Silvertongue, cousin to Duke Everton, and requests a place for his package to stay for a few days until one of his friends or servants come to pick it up.

Afterwards, Gareth takes a stroll through the city, trying to discover where the powerful people live and what the general inclination of the inhabitants is towards the powers-that-be.

OOC: I assume Din Din gets some sort of token that can be used to identify a person who wants to pick up his possessions from the bank?
Also, I will extract the gp from my possessions in the Rogues Gallery. I believe that is 4gp for the inn, and 2gp for the bank?

Jeremiah, Ngoya, and Jacobim

Lattimer laughs, a spiteful sounding guffaw, as he looks at the gnome, "What are you going to do, little one, polish our boots? Make little toy soldiers to fend off the elves?" The scarred man looks to Jacobim to share his mean-spirited mirth, then back at Jeremiah, "You wouldn't last five minutes where we're going."

Seeing the dark warrior-woman's affection for the diminutive creature, Jacobim cuts Lattimer's off and says magnanimously, nodding at the gnome: "I am sure you thought the same of me as I approached you. Lets see what he has to offer, perhaps we will be surprised."

Those that fell asleep will be fodder outside the city gates; I will need sturdier companions... Perhaps the gnome will do he thinks to himself.

Jeremiah

Ignoring the unexpected praise from the noble, Jeremiah stares hard at Lattimer for a moment before letting loose with a short tirade. "I can scout well, I can find good food and water in the wilds, and I CAN hold my own in a fight. Also, I can treat the injuries of your wounded to keep them alive. From what I hear, half or less of your patrols don't come back already. I might be able to improve your percentages by keeping some alive. I'd think you'd welcome the help. And if I can't help and I get myself killed, then one less gnome in the world won't be a big loss and I won't expect you to shed any tears or wax poetic at my funeral. Is that enough, or do you want to fight me first?", he finishes with fiery bravado while continuing to stare up at Lattimer.

Ngoya

Initially shocked by the attitude of Lattimer to the gnome, Ngoya hides her smile as both the Tribeless mage and the Gnome verbally berate him.

"perhaps we should focus on this mission you have Lattimer," she tries to redirect the tensions in the room. "I am sure the team could use all the help it can get?"

Ngoya, Jacobim, and Jeremiah

Lattimer sighs and mutters something in the language of the goblins, something vulgar most likely. Andus, has, by now, managed to get the other recruits awake again, so Lattimer holds an impromptu mission briefing.

"Tomorrow morning, we'll be heading north to scout out the ruins around the Needle. There are goblins known to be infesting the area, but the Lords Council believes there may be a hidden cache of pre-Shattering weapons somewhere in that area. A mercenary group calling themselves The Night Reavers stumbled on to a map,"

He pulls out a tattered pre-Shattering road map, "which says there was something called a Coast Guard base near the Needle. Lord Vedic, who paid quite a bit for this scrap of paper, believes there is a secret weapons cache in the basement. So, that's where we're headed. About two weeks to get there and probably a few days of rummaging about, looking for this Coast Guard thing."

His tone indicates that he doesn't believe the weapons cache exists, but isn't paid enough to question the Lords Council decisions.

Din Din

OOC: The 4 gp will cover living arrangements and storage for a day. If you want to downgrade to 2 gp the following night, the storage will still be covered by that. Downgrading below that will result in an extra charge for the storage.

The Lords who form the Lords Council reside in the City Core, inside the First Wall, in luxurious mansions. The general populace believes them to be decadent, self-absorbed, and even evil. Powerful and rich merchants dwell in the Second Wall District, many of whom have as much influence as the Lords themselves, thanks to their money. The general feel of the city is that anything can be bought, including loyalty and lives, if one has enough coin and knows the right people.

Gareth learns of the Lattimer's Patrols from a town guard. The Lords Council sends them out to scout out ruins and deal with minor threats like goblins raiding shipping routes. Lattimer's reputation is a bit...tarnished, however, as he tends to view his troops as expendable...something the Lords who pay him don't seem to mind. After all, paying inexperienced troops for a few days before they die is less expensive than paying experienced troops over the long term.

Ngoya

Ngoya listens intently to Lattimer and studies the map. Goblins are canny creatures and not to be underestimated.

"Lattimer, how big will this patrol be?" she asks. "Will we need wagons to bring back these weapons?"

Jeremiah

After Lattimer grudgingly accepts him coming along, Jeremiah listens intently to the mission briefing, only to interject with the occasional short interruptions before Lattimer continues: "The Needle!!", followed by "Ah, goblins." with a knowing nod, and finally "WEAPONS?!" which he accompanies by a small fist pump as if already tasting victory. After that, and a scowl from Lattimer, the gnome falls silent to await any more information.
