D&D 5E The Fall of Blackmoor (IC)

Din Din is not sure how to proceed. Surely the most depraved and evil resident of Blackmoor would be amongst the noble families or perhaps the rich merchants, but how does one figure out which is the worst?

Thanking the town guard for this information, the seemingly human rogue makes an exaggerated bow and leaves for the Outer Wall. After all, the only name he had heard in connection to the city's nobility was one Lattimer, so Din Din decides to have a little chat with the fellow.

Dismissing the idea of getting his armor back, Din Din decides that playing the charismatic Gareth Silvertongue in his fine clothes would make for a more convincing angle. After all, his uncle is a duke!

OOC: I'm not sure yet how to proceed. Perhaps gaining Lattimer's trust first before getting him to divulge information about the noble families requesting his service? Input would be appreciated.

OOC: Please remind me, tomorrow, with a post here or in the OOC thread, to post an update. The past couple of days have been kicking my rear end and I'm exhausted.

Ngoya, Jacobim, Jeremiah, and Din Din

Lattimer replies, "Just you three, Andus, and the rest of the recruits over there, and anyone else we can wrangle up before tomorrow. I honestly don't know if there's any actual weapons left in the place. Seems likely it was looted long ago just like every other weapons storage site in this region. But, we'll have a wagon along, just in case. With a stubborn pair of mules pulling it."

Din Din approaches the patrol barracks and sees a dark-skinned nomad woman, a young nobleman, and a gnome gathered around a table looking at a tattered pre-Shattering road map and listening to a heavily scarred fellow. A group of recruits is in the nearby training yard, getting ready to begin the morning's practice drills.

Ngoya

Ngoya smiles and then realises that Lattimer didn't include himself in the group. "Are you not coming with us Lattimer?" she asks. "Who will lead then? Andus?"

Scanning the route on the map she comitts it to memory, thanking her tribes wanderlust for the now rare skill. Turning to Lattimer, "With your permission, I will act as a roving scout ahead of the wagon. This will give me a chance to spot any trouble long before it strikes the wagon.

Din Din (as Gareth Silvertongue)

Din Din realizes that the scarred man must be the Lattimer he heard about, and the presence of the others makes interrogating the soldier difficult. The warlock realizes his window of opportunity, however, when he spots the young nobleman amongst the crowd. If he could gain this one's trust, discovering the most depraved noble in town would be easy!

"Greetings, sturdy defenders of Blackmoor," the finely dressed man says with an exaggerated bow -- if only he had a hat to make the bow even more elaborate! -- before introducing himself. "My name is Gareth Silvertongue, swashbuckler extraordinaire and cousin to the benign Duke of Elderbrew, and I am staying in town for a few weeks before my kinsman arrives. Are you the one called Lattimer? I was told you are the man to talk to about seeing the sights in the city's vicinity and generally having a bit of fun chasing goblins."

With that, the warlock smiles at each person respectively, adding the tiniest of nods towards Jacobim and a lewd wink at Ngoya. The charismatic rogue makes sure he puts the others at ease with his smooth words and smile, keeping his magical abilities in reserve for the moment.

OOC: I think I found my angle. ;)

Jeremiah looks the newcomer up and down, wondering if the fop will be able to survive in the wilds. Not that he was going to argue against this one joining them after just winning his battle to be included in the patrol! Besides, he knew better than anyone not to judge a book by it's cover.

Jacobim
This one has manners Jacobim thinks to himself, as he wonders if he ever heard of the Duke of Elderbrew.

OCC: Do I need to roll a History check? Jacobim is trained in History, and has +2 to his check.

Nogya, Din Din, Jacobim, Jeremiah

OOC: Yes, please roll it. ;)

Lattimer nods to Ngoya, "I'm retired. I don't put my neck on the line for..." At this point Gareth approaches and Lattimer, "Bloody hells, another one."

With a roll of his eyes, Lattimer, obviously exasperated at this point, says, "Sure. Let's all have a merry bloody chase through the woods. Maybe get one of those illusion masters to put it up on the city skyline like they do for the gladiator matches, eh? Wouldn't that be just jolly bloody amazing."

Lattimer finishes with a final, "Bah, I'm too old for this." and stalks off to inspect Andus and the other recruits.

Elsewhere in the city...

Kini

Kini Blackhammer and a gaggle of four other street thieves had noted the arrival of a pompous, stuffed shirt noble. Said his name was Gareth Silvertongue. Mouse, a young human who barely spoke, but was an excellent observer, had noted his fake credentials. The gang, like several others, often stationed themselves at one of the roofs of the tallest buildings in 4th Wall District with a good view of the city gates, watching the new arrivals for potential targets. This Gareth was more...or perhaps less than he seemed.

The leader of the little group, Raggus, a rat-like Shifter who could become even more of a rodent and scale walls, screwed up his odd face in to a frown, "Well, if he's a fake noble, then he ain't worth fleecing, is he?"

Raggus looked at Kini for his opinion. Mouse knew Kini had some extra gold but no one else did.
