The glory of OD&D

So, basicaly, you're going to bail out on your players and the current campaign and force them to play in a very limited system that is no longer being made, supported, or played by the vast majority of role-players out there.

Might be fun for a one-off. If you're serious about switching to OD&D as your main system, and I were your player, I'd be dropping out of your game ASAP. That's just... chaotic. But, then again, you've always struck me (from your posts) as a very chaotic and ad-hoc type DM, so it just might be the right thing for you and those players who don't mind.

Are you playing a "Fighting Man"?

Have you decided between the Longsword (d8) or the Axe (d8) or perhaps the Warhammer (d8)? All have their up and down sides.

DS

I just got back from Gen Con yesterday, so we haven't actually started to play yet. I'm thinking of building the concept based on stats for my first character. Now, anyone can be any class so I could have a 3 strength Fighting man. But I'm thinking it might be fun to have stats first and go from there.

I was lucky enough to play some OD&D with the wonderful likes of Buttercup and Fusangite and the Expeditious Retreat folks.

Thanks to Francisca, who ran a great game, with full first edition feel!

what name did you finally give that thief of yours with the dex 13?

I'll also be starting a massive convertion of taking all my d20 stuff and making it work for oD&D. It is the one true game and I am thankful that Diaglo was there to show me the light.

i'm gonna need the help with Ptolus.

I'm not bailing on them. Half the group was there and agree with me, and after talking to everyone else they all fully support this change. The system is not limited at all and even though it might not be in print I'll have no problem getting copies. I found all of them at the Con. And it doesn;'t matter how many gamers play it, many small press games are played everyday. I have a group of friends so I have no need to recruit.

It's actually not chaotic at all. This wasn't a random choice that I made for the group, that would be rude. If you were one of my players then it would be different as we would be good friends and there would be plenty of trust that no one was ruining the game for anyone else.

A few months ago I snagged a copy of the white box OD&D in a bookstore. Besides the three booklets it also had the Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldrich Wizardry and Gods Demigods & Heroes supplements as well as the Swords & Spells and Chainmail booklets. Each one is from it's last printing but the suckers are all MINT!!!. Except for the residue of the price labels on the supplement books it doesn't even look like the person who originally bought it even played it. The booklets all lay flat like they hadn't been held open to read. According to the price listing at Acaeum they're worth around $200 but I got it all for just $10 bucks.

Might put them up on Ebay sometime in the future along with some of my other older books.

I can’t tell if the OP is joking or not, but I will say that if it weren’t for True20 and C&C, I would have gone back to OD&D myself long before now.
