This would be more useful if DMs actually posted their favorite pet NPCs complete with backstory. At least that can be folded into a campaign. The DMG already has bland base npcs.

i'd just like to point out that my 9th level elven cleric of corellon is going to kick all your guys butts.



ok maybe not, as he only has 50 hit points at 9th level when barbs have more than 120 in some instances . . . but using his inate bonuses and some of the skill bosting items in the DMG (gotta love those high price skill bonus additives you can add to armor) the cleric is going to be able to compete with those two humans (the rogue and the shadowdancer) in regards to move silently . . . with a good old dex of 12 . . . (gotta love how elves as just *so* much better than anyone else)

and don't even get me starting on him having a spot score almost better than those guys too, despite the cross class issues . . .

Bah! Check out my 9th level ranger on the first page ... you wouldn't even get close enough to Spot him ...

while your 'ranger' does have more hitpoints and a nice BAB you forgot to notice one thing. your guy is a peasant. or human. or whatever it is you guys have decided to name your race . . . it is of no consequince to me . . .

my cleric has a charisma of 8 (quite abrasive personality, condescending to everyone else, he thinks he is the best, and i dare you to try to tell him he isn't!), but a spot of +13. might i add a move silently of +20 (or +21 if i decide to give him the gloves of dex over the gauntlets of ogre strength)

also he casts more spells, owns a mirror and soap, can turn undead, a search of +6, and has a signet ring!

and his dad can beat up your ranger's dad!

oh, i'm sorry, you have a will save of 3 . . . nice spells though, and nice sword . . . but . . . man . . . my little sister who's an apprentace level aristocrat has a better will save . . .
