D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

All viable options. Its not crystal clear what I would puck as a wizard but healing word, cure, command, bless would be obvious ones.

I'm not picking guiding bolt, shield of faith etc.

For a wizard doing magic initiate cleric, I’m never taking bless. Command, healing word or even cure wounds are much higher priorities.

I probably wouldn't either tbh. Abjurer maybe if I had a support concept. It woukd be something wizards couldnt do exception maybe command (wizards have good wisdom save spells.

Magic Initiate: Druids the hymmn one.

Typo. Magic Initiate is an S tier feat. Alert would be another one.

If you want a specific spell if you really really want it you can get it.

Original conversation diverged a bit as shield (on a cleric) started to get compared to bless.

Its a bad example imho. Its an option sure but I don't think a typical cleric would do that.

For example assume a cleric decides to take MI:Wizard. Is shield the right spell to take?

Yes. There’s other strong option as well. Jump as you mentioned. Tasha laughter. I’d say shield is in the top 3 of 2024 PHB option for magic initiate wizard on a cleric.

Then if you look outside the 2024 PHB there’s a few more.

Reverse it a Wizard takes MI: Cleric. I probably wouldn't pick command I might pick bless though.

In all cases ymmv. Cleric+ shield can be done. I don't think its typical. Its a bad comparison.

I would never pick bless over command. Most likely I’m picking a heal spell. But command would be up there. Non concentration control is really good. Makes for a great turn 2 after you’ve already used a level 3 slot on Tasha’s. You can follow up on the enemies you missed with a level 1 or 2 command.

Yeah im dealing with cleric using comnand+ concentration spell. With Sorcerer/Bard/Warlock help.

More meta party drop a spellcaster for another striker maybe 2.

I wasn’t “comparing” them, I was citing shield as a reason not to squander 1st level spell slots in trivial castings of Bless. Nor was I thinking of clerics in particular, I see very few of those and the character with Bless I was thinking of was a sorcerer.

Nope, clockwork. Think the Bless was from magic initiate and shield from being a githzeri.

Gith added it to your spell roster?

I cant remember lol.

Blesss would a a 1/day thing no spell slot required.

On a Sorcerer shield vs bless is different calculation. Can't heal yourself, lower AC, different role.
