The Guard NPC class.

Okay, I'll need some help with this. I wanted to create a police officer type character who didn't focus on fighting so much as keeping the police. Intimidate, sense motive, etc should be class skills, and he should have skills in weapons that subdue rather then kill the opponent. I like Will as a favored save because it's good for resisting temptation, bribes, and charm persons.

HD - 1d8
BAB - 3/4 (as cleric)
Fav Saves - Fort and Will
Skill pts - 6 per level

For a class skill list I don't have anything in front of me to choose from, but it should convievably include everything needed to deal with people, search through carts of goods, detect hidden storage containers used in smuggling, etc.

They should be proficient with a club that deals subdual, light and medium armor, nets, etc. Crossbow would probably be nice, as well as the bola balls from S&F.

One thing I have trouble coming up with is special feats for them. Maybe bonus feats that deal with deputizing people, etc. It's an NPC class so the DM has power over it to make sure only guards who are leaders get the leader feats, etc. Any ideas on these?

For normal weapons they really should only have maces and morning stars, etc. I doubt they'd use these on duty, but it's probably useful for any monsters or whatnot.

Sounds like you should just use expert and have all guards take a similar list of skills as their class skills. That gives pretty much everything you want, except d6 HP and not good Will save. But then again, no NPC classes have 2 good saves. Of course, it doesn't really matter, since you're just making them up, but it's just a suggestion. Might be easier than creating your own class.

For some of the special abilities they'd get one I had penciled up in my mind was some rules for one guard grappling someone and another throwing on the handcuffs. Another main difference over expert would be giving them bonus's when dealing subdual damage.

It'd be nice to make guards feared in bar brawls without making them into warriors or fighters.
