The Hero: A Modular 5e Class

Ashkelon

First Post
Heroes come from all walks of life. Some start as simple farmers destined for greatness, others as wealthy nobles turned vigilantes, while others are the offspring of a mortal and some powerful supernatural entity. Whatever their backstory may be, heroes tend to be exceptional individuals with amazing capabilities and a greater purpose.

The Hero is a simple, build your own style class. They are a jack of all trades with the ability to fight with weapons and learn minor spellcasting. They are similar to the 3e Factotum class in a number of ways, but are designed to be balanced with the other 5e classes. Try one out today!

Good format and concept. I'd play one of these in an instant in any campaign that offered them--I have an affinity for classless systems and characters that are dabblers and generalists. I have no special insight in to power/balance issues with 5E, since my actual play experience has so far been limited, but those are strictly numbers issues. The "bones" of the class are solid. Hero Points are a simple and utilitarian mechanic and the build choices are intuitive.

If I ever run 5B for a full campaign, I'll probably put in this or a variant--which is about the highest praise I can give (I'm a DIY-rules guy). Approved!

It'll be interesting to see if the PH offers similar flexibility in character design through multiclassing, feats and other build options. I doubt it.
