The horror that will be known as "Alien Vs. Predator"

I distinctly remember reading AICN's incredibly positive script review of "Attack of the Clones". Of course, Knowles proclaimed that it would make up for everything that was wrong with "The Phantom Menace".

So much for script reviews.

Edit:

Quotes from the review....

"...to be played by Lance Henriksen in a shameless attempt to court fanboy goodwill and to derail pre-production for THE MANGLER 3: WHY, YAHWEH, WHY?"

"Lex leads the team to the spot where Weyland’s deep core drillers will break through the icy surface, detonate a nuclear weapon, and save the Earth from certain destruction. Oh, silly me, that’s THE SEDUCTION OF JOE TYNAN!"

Ummm....yeah. okay.

Huh? Does anyone elses brain hurt after reading this babble?

I will save my opinions for the actual movie.

Other way around. He liked the movie, but felt like the concept wouldn't hold up a franchise.

Eh, I'm looking forward to it. I'm going with what Henry said. And don't forget, Weyland-Utani knew about the xenomorphs before the first movie took place. The Nostromo was sent to LV-462 to bring back a specimen without the crews knowledge.

Mortal Kombat
Event Horizon

Hey now, I liked Event Horizon. That was an excellent horror flick that actually was very Cthulhuish - but in space. The only thing I'm disappointed with is that they didn't make some creepy sequel where whatever becomes of the Event Horizon and Laurence Fishburn's character return for more insanity and mayhem.

I also liked Event Horizon. But yes, Mortal Kombat was bad and Soldier was unwatchable (I turned the tv off when it was on cable).

For me 'Event Horizon' was very good, 'Soldier' was tolerable and 'Mortal Kombat'... well it still hurts when I think about it.

About the script, I don't think it looks bad, but it doesn't look great either. Its just so...standard. As a sidenote, for some reason it remind me 'Talos, The Mummy'.

Mortal Kombat wasn't that bad. I mean, have you seen the sequel?
Mortal Kombat was stupid...but it was also good fun. Watching Christoper Lambert mug his way through the production was almost worth it alone. There were plenty of good fight scenes, and a servicable plot to move the story along. The second movie.....[shudder]...now that was bad. Wow. (I'm somewhat reminded of a 3 Geeks story where they have a comics movie marathon, and somewhere in the middle they watch "Spewn". After the film ends, they stare at each other: "Well, I think we can all agree that Spewn was a pretty faithful adapation of the comic, right? But do any of us actually like the comic?")

I haven't seen Event Horizon, although I hear it's a typical Haunted House movie. Not bad, just not really that good, either. Soldier looked interesting, but I understand it sputtered along. Again, not really that bad, but not really very good.

As for Paul Anderson, he was also responsible for Resident Evil, one of the best adaptions of a video game to a movie frachies EVAR, IMHO. The RE movie was far better than it had a right to be. Considering how lean a category that is, I'll give him props. We're not talking 'Driving Miss Daisy' here, but compare it with, say, "House of the Dead".

The moment that I heard they were planning on seriously doing an 'Aliens versus Predator' movie, I knew it was doomed to failure. The original miniseries back in 1986 was too well-written to translate into a movie franchise that's already been plagued with too many cooks. Too many franchise divisions have too much invested (mentally and financially) in the various franchises not to screw it up. I don't think any directory short of a hollywood powerhouse would have the pull to make the film his way. Cameron might be able to muscle the producers and studio execs to get his way...Paul Anderson can't, and was probably chosen partly because of that fact. Maybe I'll be suprised, but I'm thinking I won't be.
