The Intricacies of an elven kensai

There was a request to see what my character, Alariel, would look like once she was converted from her 2nd edition form. She was retired in 1999 as a 20th level kensai, but with the advent of the Epic Level Handbook, my group wants to pull the group Alariel was a part of out of retirement and see what they can do with 3rd edition. As such, this is the conversion I made for my beloved character, Alariel Starym.

Possession: +5 keen initiative balance defending evil outsider bane wakazashi "Kyuuketsuki", The Sapphire Wakazashi, Circlet of Major Electricity Resistance, Ring of Protection +5, Ring of Regeneration, Silk Sash of Giant Strength +6, Cloak of Major Displacement and Resistance +5, Necklace of Adaptation, has read a Manual of Quickness of Action +5, her clothes especially her white adventuring outfit (see portrait) are treated with a permanent cantrip that keeps them immune to dirt and always smelling of lavendar and jasmine. As the Captain of the Guard for the capital city in Caspia, and as consort to Jihub Batlth, Lord Paladin of Bahamut and one of the Triumvirate rulers of the capital city, Alariel is afforded a great deal of respect and reputation, allowing her access to any reasonable purchase or trade

A couple items of note about Alariel:

  • The Sapphire Wakazashi is a nonmagical +5 keen wakazashi crafted of a single block of sapphire. It was obtained from the future for her in exchange for a service rendered.
  • It might look like Alariel has an excessive number of feats for a non-pure fighter. The reason for this is that her monk levels were built using the Oriental Adventures Handbook, which allows a monk to opt to replace the Stunning Fist, Deflect Arrow and Improved Trip class abilities in favor of other feats if one wished for the monk to focus on a different type of martial arts. Alariel followed a soft martial arts form that focused on speed and defense. Thus, I noted Expertise, Dodge, and Combat Reflexes under the feats, though they actually are part of her monk class abilities at 1st, 2nd and 6th level.
  • She has a thin scar around her neck which she usually keeps hidden with a silk choker or some other covering. This scar (in actuality, they are several scars minisculely intertwined) is the result of three deaths at the hands of vorpal swords, and as such, she has an irrational fear of a known vorpal weapon in combat.
  • Because of a run-in with a bout of flux slime, Alariel has recently lost a number of magic items that she is usually never without. At the first opportunity, she will have them replaced. These are Winged Boots, Gloves of Dexterity +6 and a pair of Bracers of Armor +8. The same bout of flux slime also disenchanted a couple of trophy items that she was very fond of: Starfall, a +3 Shortbow that could do maximum damage 3/day, a reward from the lupinals of Mount Celestia, and Heron's Talon a +3 dagger she had obtained off an evil wizard that had temporarily polymorphed her into a heron, memorable only because she had critical striked the wizard, stabbing out his eye with her beak.

At my earliest opportunity, I will post a smattering of her background, trying to highlight some of her history.
