The Jade Frontier (DM: Ukingsken, Judge: Lord Sessadore)

"I'm sure this is no easy time for the guards so I can understand him treating us so. At least we should be able to rest relatively safely tonight."

Sorry for not posting more but I've just started my internship for this summer and I've been avoiding posting on the job.

[sblock=ooc] Now worries guys, we been going at a pretty fast pace so far for PBP. As long as we all try and manage a one post a day minimum things will go fine. And don't jeopardize your internship with pbp Rapida. Also I just noticed that my typo changed the dragonborns tone completely. That should have been "not a hint of sarcasm"[/sblock]

As you walk through the gates you notice that the walls are much thicker then you would have guessed, nearly ten feet. This settlement must have been of some import at one point. The road continues straight ahead and also curls to the left and around the edge of the walls. The streets are brightly lit by torches every 10 or 15 feet, and you can see a stable and what appears to be a large tenement building, followed by a row of several houses, the first of which appears to be the vacant one you were directed to.

Recalling what you know of the town and it's history, it was once under the protection of the Empire, like all surrounding lands. There was a keep built further to the north of this settlement, where a large contingent of the Iron Legion were traditionally stationed. After the onset of the war, a majority of the legion was called away. In their absence their absence the Oni infiltrated the keep somehow, and you remember a story about the Mad Butcher of Shadowseal Keep, but the details escape you.

As you mingle with the few villagers around, you detect a definite air of unease, something has these people on edge. With a couple well placed questions you learn that not only have the kobolds been causing trouble, but villagers have been dissappearing, sometimes from within their own homes after the gates have closed. The villagers worry that the Oni have gained a foothold, and established a cabal within the confines of the town itself. However the lord of the town is quick to dismiss any such notions.

Patronis scuttles back to his companions and lets them know what he's found through word of mouth and looks to them all before addressing them once more.... "I know we would all like some rest but I feel some investigation needs to be done here tonight after the gates are closed... something tells me there is more in this outpost than the dragonborn are letting on about.... thoughts on this my new-found friends?

Miranna had said very little as they dealt with their new "hosts"- she knew the situation was a bit tense and she didn't want to make things worse. Like most of her compatriots, she paid attention to what was being said (and what wasn't), and tried to search her brain hoping some stray knowledge might be helpful.

"Maybe one or two of us can make a few discreet inquiries around town- let's not start too much trouble. The rest of us can settle down for the night- but we ought to keep watches, since it sounds like things are a bit unsettled. Maybe we can even search our lodgings- if they are but newly vacant, perhaps the previous owners number among the mysterious disappearances, and maybe some clues were left behind."

OOC: Just in case- Arcana +9=26; History +9=25; and Insight +7= 15 (dealing with the dragonborn); rolls Roll Lookup ; BTW, does anyone actually speak Draconic? It might be useful.

[sblock=ooc:]As it's not a language a starting character can learn other than starting as a dragonborn I seriously doubt anyone can speak it with us here...[/sblock]

As Miranna listens to Patronis account of the area's history it jogs her memory about what may be an important fact. During the beginning of the war, shortly before whatever calamity befell the area, the Oni enlisted the help of a dragon named Shadarxilantheligost (Shadraxil for short). The beast was drawn from the shadowfell to the life and vitality of this plane when the Oni breached the planar barriers and began their invasion in earnest. A group of knights was said to have vanquished the dragon after shadowseal keep fell. Perhaps the locals would know more.

As you approach your lodgings you hear several passerby's mention they're going to the tavern for the nights entertainment.

[sblock=ooc] I'm pretty sure I checked and conveniently I don't think any of you speak Draconic. One of my pet peeves in D&D sometime is that the usefulness of languages gets trivialized, so sorry in advance if you fall victim to one of my personal vendettas against the system hahaha[/sblock]
